So is "This Land is Your Land."
I liked singing the childhood mocking version "this land is my land" with lines like "if you don't get off, I'll blow your head off, this land was made for only me"

How are the feels today?
Did you feel well-rested yesterday?
Were you treated with respect all day yesterday?
Did you smile or laugh a lot yesterday?
Did you learn or do something interesting yesterday?
Did you experience a lot of the following feelings during the day yesterday? How about enjoyment?

If I thought you wanted a serious answer, I'd answer that. :p
Edit: in like, the dickhair-percent chance you're serious, I'll just leave this here.

Wow. And they say the liberals are too PC. While technically a conservative county, liberals have been making inroads over the past few years. Hence the problem.

So is the problem that the pledge was recited in Arabic, or is the problem that they were forced to apologize?
It's unclear to me which thing is the problem here, in your eyes.

Personally I think it's stupid to recite the pledge at all, but I don't think anyone wants to go too far into that argument right now.
I don't think it's inherantly offensive to recite the pledge in Arabic. I would like to think, however, that teachers might have the forsight to realize the closed-mindedness and touchiness of people and would head it off at the pass, however, as a matter of problem avoidance.
I do think demanding apologies on behalf of veterans is a bit much. They didn't fight a war in "Arab".

Columbia is a college in NY I believe ! It's also a rather old-fashioned nickname for the USA.
I know I'm just indulging a pet peeve about misspelling South American country names (I wonder how infrequently people get Paraguay and Uruguay right on the first try), but the quality of news reporting depresses me when it makes elementary school mistakes like this.

We used to say the pledge in Spanish in my school after reciting in English. Were we secretly being indoctrinated to the ways of the great Spaniard Empire?

I'd make a joke about them slowly invading for the last 30 years, but there's actually been negative Mexican immigration over the last 10 years, so...

Random Politics & Religion is for topics that aren't thread worthy on their own and do not have their own existing thread.
Rules and Guidelines
Forum Rules and P&R Section Guidelines still apply.
Satire is tolerated.
If your topic covers a story over 6 months old (Watergate, Benghazi, 2012 Election, etc.) post it here.
Discussions on racism, homophobia, transphobia, and the like are allowed, targeted insults based on these will not be tolerated.
Political debates get heated and are meant to be intense, if you take offense to being called or proven wrong, you don't belong here.
If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen; if you prove you can't handle the criticism you bring upon yourself in this thread, you may be removed from it. You are responsible for what you post.
Along those lines, heat is fine, but sustained, clearly personal hostility is not okay. The personal attack rules still apply. Attack positions, not posters. Failure to adhere to this will result in your removal from the thread.
