TMZ didn't do anything, they were handed the tapes. Keep up. They were handed the tapes that were illegally obtained
And they released it for your entertainment value (and advertising money).
Makes you wonder how these tapes were obtained in the first place, if it was a third party who obtained it or if it was TMZ who taped it in the first place.
But since you and Pleebo are ok with people being wiretapped for your own entertainment, then neither of you can ever complain about a certain Act passed by a certain administration ever again....

Finally watched a news report on this whole thing. Now it all makes sense on why people are so fired up this. Still no reason to falsely accuse people of things who don't know the story. Hate is hate no matter whom it stems from.
Concerns over privacy issues and money =/= defending anyone's racism. It's called getting the facts first, rather than shoot first and ask questions later.

you do realize the patriot act allows law enforcement to wiretap anyone without a court order or probable cause, I'd rather be recorded for entertainment purposes than prosecution.

So, unless TMZ (or whoever recorded this conversation) can now be classified as law enforcement, the method to obtain the recording has been deemed illegal.
But the usual defenders of TMZ will probably now attempt to classify the show as law enforcement. They already tried to classify them as the media, even though they are clearly an entertainment show (and a bad one at that).

Idolizing over celebrities who fail miserably in the morals department has always worked out in the best interests of the media industry. Thing is, Fox News is better classified as "the press" than TMZ. To even attempt to classify TMZ as a media outlet would mean that the National Enquirer and The Globe as part of the media too.
But let us not forget. TMZ is part of the media when it suits our purpose. As some posters here show. I bet you anything that if TMZ reported racist remarks from Jesse Jackson, Eric Holder, Harry Reid, Joe Biden, or Fearless Leader, and they obtained those remarks illegally, then these posters would be demanding TMZ to be destroyed.

I don't like the guy and I think he's a scumbag. On the other hand those were private conversations between himself and one other human, they were not public statements. I feel he's got a solid grounds for a civil lawsuit concerning free speech. Anyhow I'm solidly against he idea of people being put in jeopardy for ***they say in private. A free society can't exist unless it's citizens have reasonable security that they can say the craziest, stupidest things imaginable in a private setting.

This is different because this was releasing a private citizen's phone conversation to the public solely to humiliate and demean him for a profit. Would you like your private conversations be released to the public so we can ridicule you for your private thoughts, and for a tabloid to make money off of your private thoughts?

No problem with it at all I wouldn't spout my ignorance for the world to see. Its clear peeps don't understand in a free society the sword cuts both ways you can say what you want and it can be held against you. Take the 5th.

People are too focused on attacking one another for any real truth to emerge.

If you understand in America you have certain freedoms with those freedoms comes responsibilities. You are responsible for what you say and do in private as well as public. You can't yell fire in a crowded building and you can't adversely effect a public brand without repercussion if the tapes would have been false then yes the NBA could do nothing but the truth is out and yeah that can't go unpunished in the court of public opinion which effects NBA dollars....

WTF ... this makes absolutely no sense. The 5th amendment is that you can't testify against yourself, it's important amendment because it prevents you from being tortured or forced into giving a "confession" as a guilty plea. Privacy is covered by the 4th amendment as it's considered with search and seizure and due process.
In all cases, private two party communications should not be used against someone to deprive them of property. The 1st amendment is the most important for a very big reason. If people are afraid to say what they feel out of fear of being crucified over political correctness then the progressives have won and defeated the free society.

Here you guys go,
Quote: The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
It's long since been established the voice communication is considered under both persons and papers as it's a form of communication. This is why you need a warrant to wiretap someone. The only way to legally release it is if one party does so and then they may face civil litigation depending on what the recording was used for.
Anyhow I'm not defending the a$$hole, and he's definitely a racist a$$hole, but being a racist a$$hole isn't illegal. He never publicly attacked the NBA nor anyone or anything inside the NBA. He made racist comments in a private conversation, something I've heard people do hundreds of times. And honestly I hope he wins any suit against the NBA or whomever was involved, private communications need to be protected.

See case missed this is not a court room he can freely sue her all day I have zero issue with that at all. But just like wikileaks the information is out now society will react to it.
In court this would be fun but its not court it's the court of public opinion he loses...

No problem with it at all I wouldn't spout my ignorance for the world to see. You just did.
Its clear peeps don't understand in a free society the sword cuts both ways you can say what you want and it can be held against you. You also have a right to privacy, and it is illegal for anyone to publicly release any information about you for the purpose to harm your character.
By law, Sterling has the right to file a civil lawsuit exceeding $2.5 million plus any losses associated with a forced sale of the Clippers, along with any additional losses and expenses due to this whole issue (including any legal fees due to the civil lawsuit).
Only works in court.

Take the 5th means basically if you don't want people to know your racist views you say nothing period private or other wise.
I can tell it's a pointless conversation but a life lesson many should learn what you say and do even in private can come back to bite you on the *** if it's made public how ever it is made public.

Yeah point missed yessh wow lol I am done.... Your point was not missed, it was disregarded as a feeble excuse to demonize somebody's personal thoughts.
Also shows how hypocritical you are. You are attacking somebody's opinion because they have an opinion, even though it is your opinion that is the attack itself.
So, are you going to plead the 5th for having an opinion?

I hope he sues, and wins, a $500,000,000 USD lawsuit against the NBA for damages in connection to libel and defamation. That'll send a strong enough signal to the paparazzi that it's not ok to do this.
And for you progressives that think this is a good thing. You don't realize how much this harms you. In this day and age I know people who can easily get access to the email accounts of every last one of your along with the mods and admins. Could dig through your entire life, everything you've every said or communicated electronically. I'm positive they could dig up enough dirt to implicate you in something, at the very least let everyone know your faces, address's and social groups then link it with things you've said. All for the public to see. They don't do that because law prohibits it and society highly discourages it.
Just imagine a world where doxing is not only acceptable, but socially encouraged. It'll destroy the very foundations of the modern world.

A) You are not being arrested. You are confusing Miranda Rights with public/private statements (which is actually par for the course, you think you can plead the 5th outside of court too...)
B) Again, being hypocritical.

No I fall under the same standard look it up maybe hypocritical is to big of a word for you. I have the right to say what ever I want to say and I will suffer the consequences of my words in the court of public opinion and I am 1000% okay with that period.

WTH are you a product of the US public educational system?
This is stuff they taught us in grade school then reinforced in junior high civics.
Taking the 5th just means your exercising your 5th amendment rights to not be compelled to testify against yourself. Only court room drama's have someone say "I plead the fifth", it creates more drama that way. In real life you just don't answer the question and if you have a lawyer present (as you should) they'll immediately speak up and tell the other party you won't say anything on that matter. You don't request or ask for 5th amendment protection, it's assumed to always be present unless you specifically waive it.
Edit:
You know what, sometimes you just can't fix stupid. Blocked, problem solved.
By Jetackuu 2014-04-30 09:45:34
The way the statement was found is *** up, he'll win a settlement, or court in the long run if he sues, and everyone will know he's a racist ***, both sides win.
tabloids are pretty much the scum of the earth, and we'd be better off without them.
Donald Sterling has been banned for life from NBA Games and any activity concerning his team, The Los Angeles Clippers, and fined $2.5 million after a phone conversation between Sterling and his then girlfriend was leaked, containing racially-charged rhetoric. Discuss.
