looks like 3 days. Can totally see people hopping around to get cheap dynamis currencies/alex/other stuff... The market will probably average itself across servers. not sure if that's a good thing or bad thing!

Does anyone have any idea if your World Transfer timer isn't up when this starts, will it be right after? (Assuming more then 3 days have passed before)
For Example if 10 days have passed since my last transfer...When this starts, will my timer be up or will I have to wait the remaining 20 days?
Thanks in advance
By Kalila 2014-03-03 06:36:09
My guess would be that you'll have to deal with the transfer time given to you, seems like the SE thing to do.
If anyone knows anything feel free to post it, I'm not exactly following the news anymore.
By Jetackuu 2014-03-03 07:41:25
Probably won't know that until it happens, but it's still 28 days to go.
Now to be more tempted of a name change on 2 characters, ugh.
At least that's the only way I know of to change your name.

I would LOVE a name change...I came back with this one as a joke when "Kord" was taken. I would love to shorten it back up.

A race change would even better.

I could see that happening, and it can go either way.
But who has that much disposable income to switch servers every 3 days?

Yeah, but I mean...even so, if I was still living with my parents, I'd want to spend my money on stuff to contribute to the home. Like food. 18 bucks every 3 days? That's easily a weeks' worth of food that's being spent in a single month.

sorry it was a rl jab at a stereotype, nothing more.
Heck I'm trying to find a way to not have to spend $ on changing the names of 2 characters, silly me and my 3 accounts.

I don't know if this is a good thing or a bad idea. Servers numbers are already lower than ever. Maybe they think we are all going to create more mules for more money? i dunno.

I'm thinking that this is their alternative to a server merge, or a precursor to one.
Some servers are a ghost town, instead of merging right away, lower the prices of world transfers in hopes to get people who want to transfer off the ghost town servers, then shut down/merge the server.
I'm thinking that it's probably an easier way to see the actual pop of these dying servers than to go right ahead with a merge.
By itchi508 2014-03-03 08:57:18
It seems as SE way to make more money, Servers dead right? People keep asking "server merge when"? Seing this change i highly doubt we will see a merge again. SE answer to dieng population: Merge if you are unsatisfied, otherwise stay on a dead planet.
I see people jumping servers for more active population, i also see people jumping to lesser servers to camp NMs like Tiamat and sell on a different server for higher value, Also nabbing ToAU 3Kings for mythic etc.
A merge every 3 days will be weird. Im sure we will see alot of people come & go, specialy RMT activity rise along with Mercenary LS's grow as people will move to a server just to do business with the LS.

It's also a super easy way to make more money for them. As Spiraboo pointed out, it will make it much easier for those looking for a deal on other servers (or name change!) while SE gets to bank $36 extra in the process, assuming the player comes back. Seems like a win/win for everyone.

Smart trick to avoid server mergers.
Let players realocate by themselves in a most populated server, gonna concentrate people in some, let others empty, and still getting cash in the process!
Nice play.

I know alot of people don't pay attention to JP primetime numbers and think NA playtime is the center of the universe, but they can't merge servers when JP time gets peak population of 1200-1500.
I would be super pissed off with a 2500-3k primetime population when certain content is still highly contested in jp prime even without a theoretical merge (Dyna Tav/Colorless souls farming) or has limited instances (salvage/aa/dm)

This is honestly a pretty good business decision. WoW makes a ton off their transfers/race changes/name changes/dumb in-game store vanity ***. I know of people and have personally kinda shied away from server transfers because of the 90 day cooldown. What if you go to a server you end up just despising and not fitting into? Being able to jump back or jump to another within a few days if things dont work out is a nice incentive.

This was news that I would have welcomed but I just can't. I didn't even know it was 25 dollars to transfer I honestly thought it was 12, expecting to see a reduction to 5. 18 dollars is a ridiculous price, so this news isn't even something to celebrate.
The game has been needing a server merge for a while now, and the fact its been 5 months since the much anticipated November update and still no word of it is pretty sad.
I know alot of people don't pay attention to JP primetime numbers and think NA playtime is the center of the universe, but they can't merge servers when JP time gets peak population of 1200-1500.

Even sadder is you think 1200-1500 is a high number, where in reality its not even close, thats what all of the servers were at in 2012. They already did a server merge when numbers were higher than that. Not only that its not like SE is going to take the two highest populations and merge them, thats not how it works. All of those things that you say would be highly contested have all been highly contested (in a much more serious manner) in the past and the sky didn't fall.

I can 2nd 1200-1500 not being much. When ToAU came out I remember seeing populations of around 5000 at prime time. The main issue here is the lack of up to date endgame. Wait times for AA fights are long enough during just about any region's prime time so I hope SE adjusts content like this to accommodate increased populations.
That said I'm certain this is just a paid merger program from SE. They're probably hoping for the EU to all go to one server, NA to another and JP to another on their own accord. This way they can rake in a ton of money and then when there are officially empty servers they'll probably merge them all but 1 or 2 for spillover or like someone said to kill NMs.

Again i'm not really sure what you are getting at quoting 2012 pop numbers and advocating a merge. Its not going to make people come back to the game or resub, or play more often.
People that want merges are the same people that relied on random shouts as their sole method of finding something to do in this game. That mentality requires a high population of similar sheep to flock to the few people with the stones to organize anything.
Most people have moved past that mindset and more directly network with others instead and dont need to do as many shouts to get stuff done. People that couldn't handle that change in grouping culture just ran off to 14 and let duty/partyfinder do all the work for them.
What positives would a forced merge bring besides more shout fodder to sort through? Whether you have 1000 or 3000 players around you, what is it really doing for your day to day play experience if the magic number of people to get stuff done is 3-6 now instead of 18?
I'd rather they open up a new server and give everyone a free transfer to it if people so badly want to flock to a server hoping for it be packed like the old days.
