I'm not contending the medical aspects, but it would explain the strong reaction.

As a mother, I can see why she'd be mad. If my kid is hungry, a little titty isn't gonna kill anyone. Don't like? That's the gift of heads, they can turn away. Some people just don't want to turn to bottles so soon. However, covering up would have just been better for everyone's sanity in this case. At least that's what I'd do; planes get cold man. Don't need my ta-tas freezing over. Babies get hungry. Would you rather hear a baby cry for 10 minutes while mom finds a private spot (on a plane, nonetheless, and what if the bathroom is occupied?)? I have a 2.5 year old who throws fits for that long and it drives me up a *** wall. Food for thought.
Don't take the child on the plane. That easy.
Easier said than done. I had to move with my daughter half across the country last year. Driving was not an option, and even if it was, with a kid who was barely 2 at the time, it would be a lot more stressful than just taking a plane. In my case, she had already kicked the bottle habit, but she was still cranky being on a plane for 5 hours. Doubling (or even tripling) the travel time wouldn't help matters. Point is, less people would be "inconvenienced" by crying babies and exposed ta-tas, but traveling with a young child is stressful regardless of travel conditions.

I try my best to remain fair on this subject. But society has become obsessed with children. Catering to them. Building itself around them.

There was a time where having a screaming child in public was something you apologized for and were mildly embarassed. Not terribly so -- they are children -- but you were causing an inconvenience.

These days it seems like it's the other way around. If you're upset that you've got a screaming child kicking your seat on the airplane, you're the mean old troll. In fact, some parents -- please note I'm not saying all, but there are many -- will go so far as to get mad at you for being upset with their child. How dare you accuse their child of misbehavior or call their parenting skills into question?

My comment was made slightly off-the-cuff. I am not against children on airplanes or public places. And really, I can tolerate their misbehavior to a point. They're children. In the situation you described, it is essentially unavoidable. You did what you had to do.

But when parents attempt to make me the goat in their parental misdeeds, I get awfully defensive.

Trust me, I felt horrible when she did flip out. However, I was lucky that those who were around us were understanding (and she even got fruit snacks from someone as well).

In the case of the kid who kicks the back of chairs...

I believe in discipline. However you discipline your kid is on you, but make sure it works. If you tell your kid to not kick the chair in front of them, and they still don't listen, you need a plan b because that clearly ain't working. I can't stand parents who let their kid run rampant in public places, lol.

Not saying you should (you should) but hit up youtube for breastfeeding videos. I did it for educational reasons.

They are sharing their goods with everyone and they have no problem with it.

Wow. So much hate in this post.

You'd be surprised at how indifferent I really am about this subject in particular. It's more my frustration at our society. This is actually a thing. This woman made the news because she was indignant about HAVING TO USE A BLANKET. This also made the news because this somehow constitutes news these days. Our society has foregone "walking it off" or "having respect for other human beings (not to mention a sense of modesty)" in favor of being grossly entitled and playing the victim. She asked ahead of time even.... Why *** ask if you're going to piss and moan about the answer?

Caitsith.Zahrah said: »
While I agree with you that she should have been conscientious enough to use the blanket when offered, the bolded is kind of a ***comparison seeing as though that is purely sexual.

It was admittedly hyperbole. My mom used to breastfeed IN CHURCH. I wasn't too keen on it but I wouldn't have cussed her out if she was someone else (hell i might sneak a peek). My indignation was almost exclusively towards the "Mom said I can't stay the night after I asked and now I'm crying in my cheerios" attitude. You asked because you knew it wasn't likely so now you're gonna fuss about the response?

Anyhow: it's more just that i like to make a stink and this looked fresh and new compared to the "f jesus and f republicans" threads we get 40 times a day here.

Tact, all I gotta say, nothing wrong with it, but use Tact.

Like a quote from a old "Married with Children" when Marcy told Al that breastfeeding was a natural thing to do and Al responded "Well so is Peeing, but you don't see me whipping it out and doing that in public!"

Admittedly, when I read the twenty-two months bit I kind of squirmed a little.

Incoming random tangent: And how in the Hell do some women manage that length in the US?!? No matter how much you try, pumping at work becomes an inconvenience because of time constraints, and you end up voiding those feeding/pumping times gradually (use it or lose it fashion). HOW?!? How do they do it?

That is nothing some women breast feed their kids till like five.

That is how Norman Bates got started.

I'm not saying breast feeding leads to being a serial killer but according to a movie it does.

Very well aware. Over a year-and-a-half still make me a little squeemish. Not sure why. I don't know how some ladies make it without completely converting to the pump after the sweetones start cutting teeth.

That's so true.

I was never the kind of child to make noises and such, in part because of how I was, but also because I understood it would be shameful for my parents. I've always felt ashamed and apologised when my cousins would scream around, thought my aunt didn't care, she was the kind of people you mention.

I'll never understand these people.

I find someone breastfeeding nearby a bit annoying, but not so much as to need to tell them to go away unless they're at my dinner table(to be fair pretty much everything that makes the smallest sound bothers me when I'm eating), just like I don't care about anything people do around me as long as it's harmless and not polluting my world. But yes, surely baby sucking >>> baby crying a million times.

They're so easy to understand, though.

"The only thing I have ever done or will ever manage to do is maintain my genetic line for another generation. Cognizant of this fact but unwilling to ever admit it, even to myself, I will spend the rest of my life attempting to carve out entitlement and reward for myself and possibly my offspring on the basis of doing what almost every person on the planet can do. In order to achieve such a nonsensical goal, one that is on par with wanting to be paid for wiping after voiding my bowels, I will be as loud and obnoxious as possible since no one is really impressed that healthy but otherwise useless humans can procreate."

Coming from a mom of two kids, I've met plenty of women who are totally gung-ho about their right to breastfeed and will whip it out in public wherever and however, and it honestly kinda annoys the heck out of me. It's not gonna kill you or your kid to cover up a little.

Like anything, courtesy is a two-way street. Seeing it is gonna make a lot of people uncomfortable on different levels, and as long as you're not being an *** about it there's nothing wrong with that. There's always gonna be those type of people who go about things completely brazenly because it's their "right" :/

Aside from not wanting to make other people uncomfortable, it quite honestly made me uncomfortable if I had to feed my kids in public or around people (even around close family), so I made sure to always carry a little baby blanket. Maybe it's just me, I'm pretty modest and generally dress pretty modestly, but the thought of a bunch of random people seeing my boobs freaked me the hell out. "Natural" or not.

You must have read a different article from me.

She asked what the policy was as her 10 week old did not like a cover on its head and it won't take a bottle. She then asked to see the written policy since it is not published online. It looks like others who saw the conversation and were annoyed, but that happens when you handle customer service via twitter.

As for your modesty comment, I'm not even going to touch that.

As for news these days, I don't know what to tell you. Most news is not news, but this is more news worthy than twerking or Justin Bieber drag racing. I now know that I need to email airlines to find out their breastfeeding policy when I travel, something I might not have thought about before.

Yeah, don't think I will be breastfeeding after 6 months, if I'm able to do it that long.

However, the health benefits for the mom and baby are wonderful and each mom/couple have to make their own decisions on this topic.
