I'm over the age of five I don't watch Disney movies. On topic this is nothing worse than public schools.

Kids by the age of ten have experienced all sorts of crazy ***.

Harmless entertainment.

There is a lot of powerful imagery in that trailer; is Disney taking another step into desensitizing our kids towards sorcery and witchcraft?
No. No, with a side of no, and supersize the no. Don't forget no, as well as no, along with no, besides no. Also, no.

Maleficent isn't a new character, she's from Sleeping Beauty. I'm not sure why her appearing in a new movie is sparking outrage. People complain just to complain nowadays. Maleficent is pretty much the "bad guy" of the story, so it's not exactly glorifying her as a hero or anything. Harmless entertainment.

I honestly don't see a problem with presenting an antagonist that is truly something to be feared. Bad guys are too often painted as incompetent or cool in movies marketed to children, even when they are doing terrible things. The bad guys in the real world are rarely as universally unsuccessful. Children could use a little healthy fear of bad people.

Disney letting us see the 'evil guy' side of the story is quite novel.

Japanese been doing that for more than 60 years on their 'modern' story telling medias (light novels, manga and anime)...

It's just a new way of reading a very old story ...

Harmless entertainment.

No, because my kids' ability to be entertained, suspend disbelief and separate fact from fiction isn't dictated by religion, it's dictated by me, the parent.

What is wrong with "desensitizing" kids to sorcery and witchcraft? A majority of the people who find these things interesting are only interested in the way that you or I might be interested in a fantasy story like FF--fun to think about, but I'm not going to start waving my hands around and expect Shiva to pop out of my bedroom floor.

The only potential objection that a religious person really has left to make, then, is to the people who seriously believe in the kind of witchcraft shown on TV. From here, though, there are two further problems:

1) If the thought of someone practicing witchcraft worries you, then you must also believe in witchcraft. If you don't believe in witchcraft but are still worried, then what actually bothers you is that the person is practicing something that isn't your religion. At this point though, the problem isn't witchcraft anymore--it's just the same as any other non-believer situation.

2) If your stance is that movies like "Maleficent" are bad because they make something other than your religion look cool, then you are free to make some cool movies about your beliefs too. I have seen waaaay more movies that made me ponder the existence of god than movies that made me want to be a witch. If "Maleficent" is dwindling your congregation, then you've got other problems--and better ways to fix them than attacking Disney, Pokémon, or whatever else.

If that is promoting satanism, then the original Snow White and Sleeping Beauty were promoting date rape, Beauty and the Beast was promoting bestiality, the Little Mermaid was promoting being a bratty daughter who would change her entire life in a wild attempt to gain the approval of a man she'd never met, and Mulan promotes slaughtering your enemies with avalanches and fireworks.

The thing is, at the end of the day, it's just a movie. I would hope that anyone who is watching a movie has the sense god gave a doorknob to distinguish between reality and fictional movies. It's entertainment, not a plea to actually live your life in a way suggested by the movie.

It could be argued that some movies actually are pleas to change your life (examples would include Ferngully and Wall-E, both of which make pleas for more natural or "green" living.) But those are still just movies, and the choices you make still come down to YOUR choices.

So I guess what I'm saying here is, if your kid watches this and then proceeds to practice witchcraft, you maybe want to re-evaluate your parenting or the mental capacity of your child to distinguish reality from fiction. I wouldn't jump straight to blaming the movie. At the same time, if a parent declines to let their kid watch the movie, I would not object. It is, after all, their child and their choice.

witch craft in a Disney movies where magic is pretty much used in all their movies in some form or fashion about a old character from one of the most beloved animated cartoons just a new theme symbolism is lost on literal people out on a witch hunt so to speak and just like witch trials in Salem there were no witches just innocent people kill because they were different in some way. the morel of every Disney story is that good triumphs over evil all the time just evil. has its fun til the end leave this a movie alone and as always if you don't like it then don't go see it.

Because of Disney I took LSD so I could talk to my car.

I kinda never thought it was bestiality, because he could talk to her and so forth. It's not like she was boinking a moose! It was more like that disorder that just makes people more hairy (to me, anyways.) He seemed just as human to me in either form. But I guess that was the whole point, to look past the fur and see that there was a person in there.

No, I wasn't attracted to the Beast (or any of the other Disney princes, really.) But if I was a furry, oh well. I don't think it would be a bad thing, just like I don't think it would be bad if I was attracted to other women.

The only thing about furries is that I think it MUST be with another person who is only dressed as a furry, not an animal. This is because the entire thing hinges on consent to me, and an animal cannot consent.

This is as stupid as people freaking out over Brave and the whole "omg shes a lesbian" thing awhile back. It's mean to be fun and open your imagination... for kids or kids at heart.

I'm still trying to figure out why we must always over analyze things and argue over the internet over the stupidest ***lol.

We're all *** on this website anyway. I played a Blue Mage for years who devoured the souls of animals and used their signature techniques while wielding a curved blade and a turban.

Sometimes I look at cats and wonder what spell they'd give me if I murderized one.

its really like how people were crying about Harry Potter promoting Satan worship...like you know...it doesnt actually revolve around moral values more than focusing on the spells and whatnot...

Fantasy will always be seen as Satan worship and "brainwashing"...because religious movies that focus on their own deities/demi-gods dont do the same but with stronger emphasis on the subject matter.
