Does anyone use this router or one by asus? Do you have a heavy load on it, how often do you have to reset it if at all?

thanks, it i work in IT based on reviews these seem great, there are negative reviews but i think a lot of those might just be the exception to the norm or someone who does not know what they are doing.

i am actually getting away from wireless as much as i can, only things i plan on having wireless are phones, tablets, one apple tv, and two laptops(which i am going to have ethernet cables in common locations). years ago i made everything in my network wireless. however with all the streaming video music and such i am going to hard wire everything.

I had a relatively high end Belkin router (I don't remember the model, sorry) that throttled my connection for whatever reason, so I switched over to an ASUS RT-N66R and have thoroughly enjoyed it. As long as you disable QoS, there's no issues whatsoever with getting the most out of your connection.

I haven't had to restart it a single time for the last few months that I've had it, as I've experienced no connection issues or any other problems on wireless or wired connections. I have reset it about once every couple of months though just out of habit.

My phone supports up to 100Mb down, 50Mb up, (I think, it may be more, but my ISP doesn't provide anything faster) this router has had no issues supplying that from even outside in my yard. Have also got a laptop that supports up to 100Mb down, 50Mb up and it has likewise encountered no issues. Wired connection has almost always been at the maximum that my ISP provides. Definitely recommend.

it has nothing to do with the speed of the internet it was the amount of wireless devices cutting the bandwidth. most of my traffic is internal anyways. faster service also doesn't equal reliability.

thanks for info the prothescar think ill go ahead and order one tomorrow.

one last question do you use DD-WRT on it or the stock firmware?

why would you disable QoS? why?

I have a linksys e3000 with Tomato by shibby cfw loaded on it. Works great, more features than I honestly have *** with, haven't had to reboot it yet, and it's been running for months, and I have probably 10 devices on it at any given time, I've had heavy load of about that plus torrenting before...

I lock in my ip's on it after it assigns them so it keeps giving the IP's out to the devices.

edit: I've heard great things about the Asus routers, and I have several Asus products, including my laptop, monitors and video card, and they all work great. I have a few qualms with some of the drivers on my laptop, but hey.

Why keep QoS on is a better question. Takes way too much effort to set it up when it's completely unnecessary unless your connection is so terrible that you need to reserve bandwidth for something or it won't work, or unless you're trying to limit someone's access to the internet.

I'm not running a corporate network from my house, I don't need QoS.

I use stock firmware, haven't had a reason to switch.

it's great to prioritize traffic on your network, like if you want to limit torrent traffic for everyone in your house without having to set the limits on each device, or like he said: streaming.

you can easily set the limits of things so you don't have to worry whether or not you can stay connected to your game and still stream at the same time.

At best I get about a 30mbps down, if none of my neighbors are home, well it varies, you get the idea: cable. But even the stuff I run internal I can limit. I honestly don't have mine configured right now, but for the most part if you don't have it configured: turning it off won't do much of anything.

i am only paying for 50d/25u at the moment. i typically stream movies off my own media server so i am not too worried about the speed. torrents i tend to just run them for like a weekend once every month or so, or at night.

i remember back in the day they made great motherboards, about 6 months ago decided to get one of their laptop. it seems a they give a lot of bang for your buck without compromising quality.

I have an ASUS RT-N16 and it's been the best router I've ever used. I never had any problems with it in the 2+ years I've had it. I would recommend ASUS router (and have) to anyone looking for a new one.

Oh, I'm using the stock firmware. Part of the reason I got the ASUS was for the ability to easily use custom firmware, but I never saw the need to do so.

short of some of the hardware selections on getting some functionality to work and how the drivers interface, I can't complain too much. Well short of the chiclet keyboards, hate them, but they last awhile, and take a bit of punishment.

something to note, a setting you may be able to insert directly into your router (firmware dependent) is a secondary dns server, helpful if your ISP's is out.

what do you use to stream media to your other devices? I'm using ps3 media server right now.

If you are pushing enough traffic that you are concerned about which wireless switch under 1k you are debating on buying, you might want to save a little $ :)

having the money is not the issue, however spending money unnecessarily does not make sense if this one can do the job. not like a router is status symbol like a car lol

It could be the wireless receiver on your computer side ? Outside of that you could have interference that can mess with you connection. (try a different channel)

We have this router, or I think we do. Its definitely ASUS that we have. We have a fairly heavy load on it. Gaming and video streams. Haven't had any issues at all. I never had to reboot it. We have 2 hotspots setup for wireless thru it. 1 for newer devices and 1 for old. I'd say its a good router :)

Edit: we have ASUS RT-N66U dark knight, same in ur link.
