You stereotype your customers. I tipped the hostess extra to make sure I got "certain" types of customers.
Thats funny because there are people I know who look rich as hell but tip ***and people who dress casual and tip super well.

You must work in a super high-end area if you have to tip your hostess just to get the good tables because I never heard of that before.

I don't wait tables anymore, I did it for extra cash in college. Stereotyping your customers based on attire, how they speak, what they order, etc... didn't always work you're absolutely right but it did most of the time.

When you work in sales(whatever industry) you have to able to be able to read your customers to some degree.
Yeah I know..I know people who don't want black people because sadly most of the ones they get are super demanding (no problem on getting everything they need) and then barley tip or don't tip at all. I mean getting no tips is once a week if not even that. Also you have to look and see if you really deserved that low tip or no tip at all. Move on to your next table and hopefully the next tables will make up for that person who didnt tip.

Edit: but they still get their fare share of other races as well but they just still don't want the blacks because of that.

The purse trick never failed me! I had a systematic method that ensured me 20% average!

My advantage was I had worked in high end retail too, so I could make a fairly accurate assessment on their clothing.

Poorer people tip better and/or more frequently than richer people in my experience. So I don't see what knowing about their clothing will tell you. Have to just listen to what they say, look at how they act, and watch their body language.

Not in my experience. I mean I worked in a middle-upper class area, we didn't get poor people.
