Why would there be outrage over a person getting stiffed on a tip because they made their football fanship known? Being gay and being a fan of X team are very different things. People don't choose to be gay.

Stiffing someone based on sports is pretty *** stupid though. It doesn't show loyalty to a team but it sure does show you're a huge douchecanoe.

In case anyone doesn't know what the state of Alabama is like. SORRY FO' DERAILIN' Y'ALL.

Almost spit my cereal out! That was funny as hell!

Has anyone noticed how fanatical collegiate sports fans are when their state doesn't have professional teams? Maybe it's just states beginning with the letter "A", but Arkansas fans are nuts too!

It might just be. Arizona suffers from the same college fan douchebaggery, (looking at you ASU), and it even has professional sports teams.

It's a shame either way, but in one case you have douchebaggery + uncalled for discrimination while in the other case you just have the douchebaggery by itself. And because Auburn and Alabama fans have created this charming little game out of being complete *** to each other (and this rivalry is literally one of the most prominent aspects of people's lives in the entire state), one side can hardly call foul when the other side returns their asshattery in kind.

If the average gay person went around being a total *** to straight people just because they're straight (and if average straight people responded by going out of their way to antagonize gay people), your parallel might make sense.

No, no. First, touting ones support for a sports teams is akin to stiffing a waiter on a tip?

Second, weather you're discriminating against someone for their choice to live life promoting a specific football team or you're discriminating against someone for choosing to live their life flaunting their homosexual lifestyle, you're still discriminating. You're judging that one kind of discrimination is proper while the other isn't. Rationalize it however you want, but don't pretend it isn't the exact same thing.

It's just pathetic when people go to length to avoid their own conclusion of "it's only discrimination because I don't like it."

So wait... now being gay is a choice again? Also, the waitress was "flaunting her homosexual lifestyle"? This happened too? I may have missed the article discussing how she flaunted her lifestyle in the face of the customers...

And yes... the weather is just fine! A little cold though...

It's not avoiding their own conclusion lol... there IS a difference in discrimination for say sexual orientation or skin color as opposed to oh hey we just got inot an argument about which teams we like... If you can't see that you're just dense and want to try to throw your own point in fallaciously lol...

It's just like it wouldn't matter if they didn't tip her because it was just terrible service regardless of orientation or whatever...

1st) The whole damn thing was a hoax. Nobody discriminated against her because she was gay.

2nd) Your sexual orientation might not be a choice, but they way in which you act on it is. Do gay people have no say in the manner in which they walk, dress, cut their hair or otherwise present themselves to other people?

It's all discrimination bro, it's all the same mechanism. This person is X, I don't like X people because of Y. You can rationalize your morality of Y however you want, but the rules for you aren't always the rules for someone else.

Unless you can provide some evidence that she flaunted her "gayness", you're just a tard ranting about the girl that rejected you and dated your sister.

Keep trying brah. What conclusion are you trying to reach? That some people prejudge others to be something without irrefutable evidence? How does that even contribute to "discrimination is discrimination"?

Right, or you could just display your values and lifestyle out in the open for others to see, and then be intolerant of their intolerance when undoubtedly not everyone accepts what you display.

In the end, you are responsible for how you present yourself to other people.

It being a hoax has nothing to do with the garbage that just fell from your mouth... btw... I still haven't seen anyone confirm it was a hoax lol...

/sigh

So now you're saying that if someone "walks gay" Has a "gay haircut" or "dresses gay" they are throwing their lifestyle in your face? idk about you but I walk the way I walk lol... and people dress all kinds of different ways that are quite flamboyant that have nothing to do with being gay lol... I was not aware there were gay haircuts lol... not to mention this has no weight in this discussion because she was wearing a uniform and had a neatly trimmed haircut (unless you mean short hair on girls means its a gay haircut which btw is ridiculous just in case thats what you were saying)... and I don't think she was "walking gay" either... not to mention that the family didn't claim she did any of that... but seriously... correct me if I'm interpreting this wrong and you're not the type of person that is just bothered by others peoples presence because they don't fit your mold of how it should be lol and that that means they are flaunting their lifestyle in your face...

It's still false equivalence as we've said before... discriminating someone for being nothing else than what they are vs. their actions... Can you not see the difference and why people would be more upset about on over the other?

So someone being who they are is intolerant of other peoples intolerance? Wtf is wrong with you man?

It doesn't fit the cookie cutter man! This one is gonna rob me because he's sagging his pants! Oh no! This one wants to have sex with my anus because he's dressed spiffy!

In the end what does it matter? People should conform to your cookie cutter mold to be able to exist so that you don't show scorn for them? lol... ridiculous...

I already do this, lol. I'm not rolling up to the supermarket in nothing but underwear with the *** cheeks cut out, but if someone wants to take offense to me just being me, then *** em. They get labeled a bigot and I move on.

There's no tolerance paradox here. I'm a tolerant person. That doesn't imply I must tolerate everything, intolerance of other people's lifestyles being the obvious one here.

Whether or not people are "flaunting" their sexual orientation or their sports teams is irrelevant.

Sports rivalries are a game. They're a game about a game. People choose their teams and, in bragging or dissing the other teams, they choose to participate in this pretend conflict between people with no innate differences.

We all agree that tips should be given on the basis of performance alone. The stingy diners in both of these examples are at fault for this reason, but their motivations are very different. The sports fans withheld their tip as part of a game that both parties are actively playing--they get really into it (yelling, throwing eggs and toilet paper at each other), but it's all in good fun. They can withdraw from this make-believe conflict anytime they want because their sports team isn't meaningfully tied to any other aspects of their lives.

Gay people aren't playing some stupid game. There is no silly back-and-forth. No one chooses to be on "team gay." There is no lighthearted conflict between "team gay" and "team straight." Gay people and straight people aren't at odds with each other due to a mutual disapproval of the other party's lifestyle (gay people aren't attacking the "straight lifestyle"); what we have instead is a portion of straight people who wage a one-sided, non-retaliatory war against gay people. The important difference here is that discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation is malicious (and not pretend malicious).

The Alabama fans "discriminated" in the same way that my tongue "discriminates" between delicious salty bacon and sweet, sweet pie. They "discriminated" in the same way that two rival mafia families "discriminate" when they see each other and start shooting. Quite different.

There is a difference between discrimination and intolerance.

Frankly, stiffing someone on a tip because they're gay, black, male, paraplegic, Catholic, or Republican is just intolerance. It's irritating and oftentimes a bit annoying, but it really isn't discrimination. It's a bit of a *** move because waiters rely on tips to pay their bills, which puts it a step or two above just shouting something unpleasant at someone from across the street, but it wouldn't be crossing into the realm of discrimination until you systematically deny someone basic rights, freedoms, and privileges guaranteed by our society.

That's why it is illegal to fire someone for being Latino but there's nothing stopping you from refusing to shop at the local taqueria. It's a really simple distinction; I dunno why you guys are even arguing about it.
