Wars has an expanded universe in novels. The two series often come to blows for the coveted throne of the most well known sci-fi series in discussions.
Moviewise Wars > Trek. Most of the Trek movies are bad, most notably Nemesis, Generations and V. What does God need with a starship gets me every time.

I'm fully behind Picard > Kirk. I like Kirks swashbuckling, cocky attitude but in real situation that type of behavior does not a good captain make.
