Looks outstanding, this is pretty much my last hope for the winter season, everything else either doesn't interest me or has come up short. Good to see Bioware has gotten back on track, even though their storytelling still seems weak.

Does the combat in this game truly suck?
Does the attributes and character skill unlocking have any customization?
Hows the Online play?
Wanna get this game, but i don't wanna be disappointed like the last 5-6 new games I've gotten only to play 4 hrs then burn because they suck so much..
Love DAO and awakening
DA2 suckage but I'm making myself play it atm.

I have the Bog Unicorn and the Red Hart but I can't find the Armored Horse mount :| It's installed too, anyone know what it's called?

The ability skill trees are pretty nice. You can play your class depending on what skills you unlock so there is some customization.
I just beat the game the combat is good. I haven't played online yet. The story I would say is not bad not good. It is just standard RPG.

I've read online they had issues with the deluxe edition. I'm pretty sure I beat the game without using the flame armor or whatever it is called.

I have to completely disagree with you on this.
The Story is GOOD, if not Great! It ties in the events of the Hero of Fereldon, the Champion of Kirkwall who...
Even appears in game to assist you for a little while
It really ties them all together rather well, I don't want to spoil it for people but I felt the constant plot turns, the wasting 11 hours in the Hinterlands and then finding out I wasn't supposed to be killing the dragon at level 7 on Nightmare mode, infuriating and at the same time a great Idea!
(Trying to beat it on Nightmare btw is BRUTAL)

Did you play the first two games fone? This is the problem i've been running into on every review comment section. One person says its awesome, the next person says it is lacking. Wondering if it is only "lacking" if you didn't play the first two.
Online play? Does the loot transfer to Single Player or is it a totally separate game? Can't find this info anywhere.
No other mode exists except Nightmare!

I played the first game think I skipped the second. Again the story isn't bad but it is generic. Even if you played the first two. I've played a ton of RPG's and they are all pretty much the same story.
I wouldn't lower my review of the game because I didn't like the story. Most of the JRPGs I've played had terrible stories but the combat and everything else was great.
By Ramyrez 2014-11-24 14:39:17
I've been sitting on it since release and not had time to play.
I will say I enjoyed the website interaction to let me set all my old decisions through that, because I bought a new computer in the past year and my old saves are gone, and I haven't had a chance to finish playing through DAO and 2 yet.
But I've only just entered the Hinterlands and have had zero time otherwise. Hopefully over Thanksgiving I'll get to really dig in.
By fonewear 2014-11-24 14:41:27
It was definitely a must buy for me because I haven't played an RPG since Skyrim...

It's all in the characters. Which is why I loved both DA:O and 2.
Though with 2 is was a bit of love/hate. Really liked some characters, really hated others.
Anders can never die painfully enough for me.
I loved him in Awakenings and then he turned into such a scumbag.
By fonewear 2014-11-24 14:43:05
I agree the characters are very entertaining and well written. Iron Bull stands out to me as the most interesting.

Well yea.. you can only fight evil so many ways I suppose. Combat is like DOA then? Gimme some multi-player info! lol.. I'm probably gonna buy the damn game anyways /sigh.

The limited combat I've done is actually more like...uh, I'm not even sure, really.
Kind of a combo of DA:O and a more action-oriented game, but not like DA2 necessarily.
The control was, imo, a bit stiff. I'm on PC, though. It may feel more natural with analog sticks on a console.

It looks pretty fun to me but I still have things I want to do in single player before I move on to co-op play.
The combat to me is similar to and MMO sorta with the hot buttons to do abilities etc.
Also if you play as a rogue like I did prepare to die a lot.

That sucks, they missed an opportunity to do something totally unique and could have been awesome.
By fonewear 2014-11-24 14:54:18
I think I'd get tired of co op very fast. But then again I don't normally care about online play. It is basically just dungeon crawling over and over same stuff.
Also everyone's favorite micro transaction in co op...

Gimme some multi-player info! It's a dungeon crawl system. When you enter it randomly selects the type of mobs you will be fighting as well as having varried paths through the dungeon (ie sometimes you will need to go left at the start, others right). You get gold and items from opening chests, gold can be used to buy potions or chests containing random drops. Weapons and armour you don't need can be broken down into materials to unlock other classes with or make gear you want.
There are 12 characters total who each have 2 of their own skill trees but only 3 unlocked initially. When you reach level 20 on a character they can be reset to lv1 to give every character a permanent stat boost.

To suck or not to suck, that is the question every Bioware Fan has asked themselves since Dragon Age 2.
Cautious optimism is how I have approached the game. Back in the E3 days, aside from yammering on about a potential Fallout 4 announcement I was really looking forward to hearing about Dragon Age. Alas, the E3 announcement was little more than an out-of-context cinematic with all the weight of an eggy fart.
Anyway, I'll probably keep posting random updates as they trickle in over the year long countdown to release. (Q3 2014), though that might be compromised when Destiny comes out and I bloat to the size of one of Neptune's larger moons and can't be bothered to press a single button to switch my monitor from HDMI1 to HDMI2.
BiowareForum.Shinobi602 said: »Wants to make the action less frantic and more deliberate, returning to more tactics-oriented approach to encounters. Big return to party-based tactics
Part of that is slowing down speed of attacks, more important is designing enemies that force you to examine the battlefield and choose actions carefully
Battles veer away from button mashing toward a structure where observation and reaction take precedence
Instead of swarming enemies, your foes have specialized roles; work together and force you to size up the battlefield
You won’t regularly see waves of new bad guys appearing out of nowhere to extend encounters
PC gamers getting an optimized version; “PC actually is different, especially from a controls standpoint”, trying to “recapture the very tailored experience of DA:O on PC”
Going from Eastern Ferelden to Western Orlais; repetitive environments are nowhere to be found in DAI like in DA2.
Players aren’t just funneled down narrow corridors, the demo showed a bog, desert, a mountain range, all enormous and freely explored in third person.
Lots of hidden things to find, caves, dungeons, corpses, etc that create other unique sidequests
“Trying to drive exploration- something that frankly, Bioware hasn’t done in a while.” “In a way like Baldur’s Gate, areas that existed in part just to spaces that you went to, but they had a story of their own.”
Want to make sure there a sufficient number of caves in the game that are each unique, and optional. If you have a mage in your group, you can use a spell to reassemble a crumbled bridge to reach a new area.
Can also restore a ruined desert outpost into an Inquisition stronghold
So much ground to cover that mounted creatures are implemented
Monsters, and dragons for example, do not level up with you. Some are vastly more powerful, forcing you to come back later with proper experience
Some environmental destructibility
Warrior class has grappling chain that can pull enemies in close
Enemy scenario: Fighting a massive, armored dragon, you can target a leg, send warrior into melee range to bash off armor, rogue can sneak up and poison the exposed limb, dragon stumbles around allowing others to
unleash spells etc
Weather effects can impact exploration, ex. Rainfall, desert sandstorms
Rainy weather can make areas muddy, slowing down your traversal/agility in combat, while sandstorms can inflict damage causing you to seek shelter
A new mage joins your party, Vivienne
Both Varric and Cassandra also join you
Working hard to make large areas interesting; slopes, rocks, elevations and your character has tailored animations for overcoming each. Ease of movement key.
Morrigan is not a party member; not a cameo role though
Collect resources/materials and craft armor for you and all your party members; heavy emphasis on customization
Each armor retains a certain iconic look, but looks different on each character. They want the squadmates to each have an iconic look, but customize armor to tailor to each while retaining elements of that iconic look
3 classes to choose from of course: Warrior, rogue, and mage
At least 3 races to choose from; when asked about Qunari, Mike Laidlaw says “Do we go to four? I don’t know. Definitely these are the safe bet”.
Update: Qunari are Playable
Your racial choice colors your interactions with others; for example elves may be persecuted in some parts, but an enclave of elves is more likely to open up to one of their own.
Chantry/Templars don’t respect your Inquisition, you have “persuade” them through your own means. You can come across a fortress and if refused entry, you can lay siege to it and break down the doors. What you do from there is your choice.
Hinting that you have a base of operations, maybe a castle to call your own
Dialogue wheel returns, but the team has focused a lot on making the selections accurate to what your character says. They’ve now added an optional addition to the wheel that gives you better idea of what to expect
A lot of loose ends will be resolved in the story; expect full resolutions to things like Red Lyrium, the activities of the Grey Wardens, and Flemeth, and also Morrigan
Working very hard to ensure your saves/decisions will carry over to next-gen consoles The inquisitor seems to be able to open rifts in the fade to summon demons. Whether that is a gameplay feature that all inquisitors get (via rituals?) or if it’s a class-specific bloodmagic skill I cannot say.
Four voice actors, two for female, two for male. You seem to be able to choose them regardless of the race you’re rolling, but you cannot use a male voice on a female PC.
for some mysterious and not further explained reason the inquisitor is the only person capable of closing the tears in the fade.
our headquarters is called Skyhold
to advance the story, the inquisition has to have gained a certain strength, to unlock new regions
upgrading/customization of Skyhold and any other outposts
Laidlaw (Creative Director for Dragon Age) says most areas are roughly three times the size of the korcari wilds from DA: O
animal wildlife works differently: they interact with each other (wolves hunt deer, a dragon once picked a fight with a giant) and need time to repopulate, so if you kill all the wolves in an area, you’re gonna have to be very patient
dragons actively protect their nests
dragons (and I imagine other really big enemies) have attack points, so you’ll do more damage hitting the head then hitting the back, for example
the inquisitor can jump
the environment is supposed to have a big influence on battle, like we’ve seen the inquisitor slightly stumble when the ground turns muddy after rain
