I'm normally a huge Olympics junkie but I'm going to go ahead and let the first few days go this year (partially because I'll be in the woods with no telecommunication service to speak of whatsoever). Rio is just...seriously. It's like no one is excited for this, especially compared to four years ago. Whatever. As long as I get to see the archery and fencing stuff I'll be happy.

I have a few friends over there since last week and one of my co workers is going this weekend. It's pretty crazy at them moment I'm starting to buy into the IOC has a corruption problem akin to FIFA.
Edit: that's in the capacity of taking the money and exploiting the countries that don't have the infrastructure and facilities to handle the quadrennial event. That and every petty criminal is licking their chops at all the tourist marks.

There's a Swedish hockey player from the 2014 games that didn't get his silver medal for like a year or more because he took a *** allergy pill. Documented. Prescribed by doctors. For treating allergies. In a normal amount that you or I would use. But it's on their list because apparently it has the potential to be somehow performance enhancing? Yeah. They gave uncle moonshine a transfusion and it woke him up out of his coma....
He was pretty pissed off that they had kept him alive all this time and he demanded that he be released to go die at home. Hospice says he has about five days left. His kidneys and liver quit and his heart is shot. We went over yesterday and brought him deserts and stuff. I asked him if he had any last requests for booze or cigars and he said NO. He's done... and he is just happy they let him come home...

Sorry to hear, my grandpa was experiencing kidney failure and several other issues, when they told him they couldn't fix the problem he stopped dialysis and came home to pass away. It sucks.

Sorry you lost a cool old family member.
Just spent the weekend with several of mine, as well as many others. It was a great time. Glad I did so, it had been far, far too long since I had seen many of them. Nothin' like a hootenanny out where there ain't no cell phone service to liven up your week and remind you what's important. Also, sorry to disappoint, Nik, but they did not give me the Rasputin treatment. Was put in a 90s Alt mood for some reason by someone's random comment.
