Mil and I will be taking it as it comes. Do some old school mythology teaching (from Europe, Asia, and South America) and then move into modern religions. Probably go to different temples, churches, mosques, and festivals. To cover the major monotheistic religions and Buddhism/Hinduhism.

We've talked about doing the same. I want them to have a well-rounded understanding and appreciation of other religions/denominations. Breaking out the telescope and having the mythos of the constellations explained was so fascinating as a kid. I can't imagine keeping those gems to ourselves under wraps.

I wonder how others would react to it, if they were to pipe up about these things casually. The big sweetman is exponentially more atheist than I am but not demonstrative about it. (I'm more indecisive agnostic.) I wouldn't doubt they would pick up on our leanings simply by asking or overhearing our conversations about current events and day-to-day crap.

One of my friends teaches in a ruralburbia district, and she mentioned that there is a club at the high school she teaches at that is dubbed something to the effect of "Defense of Christianity Club" (along with FCA, but that's an old one). She's Catholic but it raises the question of in a predominately WASP school, what exactly are they "defending" Christianity from at that age? Are these kids made aware of other means of theology? This is a public school, too.

I think a lot about some of the questions that have the potential to pop up and reading these threads this past week has put a bee in my bonnet. :/

This might be a good Mos/Nik question. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Cross that bridge when it comes?
It depends on your own view.
If you have a deep problem with the concept of religion/faith, just do the educational route. Stick to historic events, how to recognise/avoid the crazy followers and to tolerate/not offensivly upset the normal ones.

If you want them to remain open about the subject with the option that they might join one, you can orientate yourself at the sex educational timetable. Non-conflict approach at ~10, a better refresh at 12, go all out when it is getting serious at 14.

If you want to push your faith on them, you can start from the moment of birth as far as I have heard.

My wife's mother pretty much would disown me if I started teaching them about 'heathen religions', so I'm waiting until they hit 14 then telling them about everything, including their parents' faiths, or lack thereof.

I'm really not as worried about it as I maybe should be.

if the place is as tasty as it is creative, it looks like a good place.

True. Although I'd argue that they lost attention to detail at the wrong end of the dragon.

i am kinda weary of new sushi places....

a new sushi place opened a few years back, so i went in there, was hella hungry so ordered lots to take home.

miso soup was like water
rice was flavorless
sushi had no flavor
everything was flavorless....
...except...
the salad dressing in the salad...
wtf?

how bad do you have to be to get sushi... a *** piece of fish... to taste like nothing?

That's a good thing, after all one has to look out for bad influences anyway. Be it drug consuming school friends or IS-recruiters.

I just had a mental image popping up in my head of an U.S. Army and IS recruiter standing together at a front door talking to a teenager with a single speach bubble 'want to get killed by American bombs? Just join us!' both holding a paper with 'sign here for a trip to Iraq'.
Might be too old to be funny anymore as U.S. Army pulled out and the friendly fire stories are forgotten by now.

I wonder if such a caricature exists... with an al-Qaida recruiter instead of an IS one to be historic accurate.

Edit: Poor Germany has to face world cup favourite France in an hour <.<;

For what it's worth, it's my step father's boat. I'm probably a good ten years out from buying myself a ship of my own, and it will probably be smaller and less wind-powered.

Please remember to teach them that they should never forget to pay their taxes to the Kingdom of Ni. I accept check, money order, cash, or vouchers for free dinners at various locations.

Speaking of which... I've noticed a severe lack of payments from all of you lately...

Sorry. I've elected to spend my weekend with the pain monster instead. After kidney stones and tattoos I figure I'm good to go.

I mean, I might walk funny for a week or two, but...
