I've seen Huey Lewis & The News live (and how many of you can say THAT?). I go to see Buffett yearly. And while Jimmy certainly makes me feel spiritual in my own boozey-pirate way, nothing was more sublime live than seeing Metallica at Summer Santiarium 9/19/2003. The day lives on like a beacon of history in my mind.)

I can respect that feeling but...no way I can let go of Kill 'em All through Reload. I can do without St. Anger -- though the songs live are considerably better than they are on the album -- and I enjoyed Death Magnetic but, again, the studio album is mixed in such a way that I prefer the songs live. Edit: and I'm pretty sure we discussed this exact thing in RT once already, but I digress. I'll always talk about Metallica given the chance.

Well, there are certain songs I could listen to over and over again and not hate. Case in point: sauce.
But if I were to go back into the archives and try to listen to something like Enter Sandman, I'd get a bad taste in my mouth. Most of my favorites come off of Load and Reload, now that I think about it.

Most of my favorites come off of Load and Reload, now that I think about it. One of the best drummers I know (and I know many) is a professional recording artist and he's a really great guy. He's a "working musician" who records with some pretty eclectic and wide-ranging stuff (From Autumn to Ashes and Zao are probably the most likely for you to have heard of). But he's one of the "Metallica sucked after Cliff Burton died" people...he's a bit of a metal hipster, as it were. That argument drives me nuts, especially from him. It's like...maaaan. You are a professional musician. You do a huge range of work and genres. How can you not understand that a band is going to go insane if they spend three decades playing the exact same stuff over and over? My "favorites" really are a from throughtout their catalogue, though there really isn't an album before St. Anger I can't happily listen to through and through. The black album is probably my "least" favorite of those, but...that's like saying my left testicle is more precious to me than my right. They're both pretty high on the list of things I hold dear.
