My grandfather used to swear by cornsilk tea. He'd usually have kidney stones about every other year, and apparently he felt that it made it easier to pass the stones (possibly by increasing urination?). Anecdotal evidence is anecdotal.

At least in the field of medicine, mindset should be a consideration. It's been shown repeatedly that a placebo can have nearly the same effect as medication if the person believes it is working. Anecdotal or not, the tea helped him, even if it has no medicinal power for anyone else.

Given that the item itself is relatively non-toxic and drinking plenty of fluids is one of the things that you should do anyway, having a hot tea isn't a horrible policy.
