If it's any consolation, most of us couldn't either the year of our model. Used or family hand-me-downs. Nobody gives a fifteen/sixteen year old a brand new car unless the parent has more money than sense. Give a kid a Mercedes or Camero for their first car, and expect an accident.

I should learn to drive.
As a city boy, I literally have nowhere to put a car, and nowhere I go ever needs one. Never got around to finishing up learning how to drive.

They charge for parking pretty often even at residences in NYC, right? You should at least get your license, but I probably would think it was impractical if I lived where I didn't have to commute.

Where I'm currently living (Hoboken), I'd have to pay out the *** for a parking permit because it's not my perm. address. If I lived here, I could get street parking passes (which there is none, for the most part, until we get into Slummy Hoboken), or pay several hundred a month for a parking space.
In addition to that, insurance is crazy, the cost of owning a car in general is just very high. I have several places I can walk to for groceries. There's like, 4 different kinds of trains in the town. I can go to Manhattan and bus to popular places like AC with relative ease and for relatively cheap. I didn't have a lot of time senior year of HS to learn how to drive, so I never ended up taking driver's education or anything. Ultimately, I then moved away. I'd suppose that next summer I'll end up taking 2-3 weeks to learn to drive, get the license, and then figuring the rest out.

I would suggest country-drives when you're learning, but I'm not sure how far out you'll have to travel for that. Parking lots?
