I had imidiate family & close friends, we're in the same region-ish. maybe 50-100 people roundabouts. Ze wife and I paid for the whole shinding, @ 7k. that was a banquet room, food, drinks, ect. not too shabby, but I should've waited until I had the cash up front, as I put it all on credit, & ended up paying around 9. but whaddyado? I was young & dumb & ready then, I didn't want to wait.

Anyway, on the cheap end..
One friend had her's at someone's property overlooking a lake. It was nice. The ceremony and reception were in the same area, so no problems with guests having to commute from one to the other.
The other had hers on the beach. Basically, they contacted the city and reserved a portion of the beach. They rented a ten bedroom beach house with a huge common area for more guests. I want to say it ran about $1000 for the weekend off-season. It was nice.
For both of these the bridal party worked hand-in-hand for the decor and what not. You can go to Micheal's, Hobby Lobby, etc. for centerpieces and decor. We did paper lanterns, Christmas lights, candles, sheer fabric, balloons and what not for the decor. (Same with the beach house.) It's actually really easy to put together a wedding if you have people available to help.
Then there was the canopy rental. Chairs, tables, table cloths...Blah blah blah. One of our friends in college DJed, so he chipped in his services. Another was a professional photographer.
You can always do an all-inclusive destination wedding or something like that too. A few people I know have done that.
EDIT: Depending on the season and area flowers can be expensive, but you can get them at Sam's for cheap and create your own centerpieces, bridal/bridal party bouquets.
DOUBLE EDIT: You need to make a "donation" to the church of the minister/rabbi/priest who marries you.

You're not obligated to, but you should reserve a block of rooms in a hotel for your guest to rent so they won't run into complications that weekend.
Your fiancee should be able to find a lot of wedding decor ideas online. That's how we pulled most of it off. It's fairly easy as long as you two have plenty of people to help out.
