>school should be less like a daycare

Small story!

Yesterday, at the end of English -> Japanese Translation class, I asked if there was any homework, which in general takes 5 mins not even to do, and the people around me were like "Sshhhhhhh." I mean we're not in *** high school anymore and this is a *** 400 (high level) class. I want to do good in this class. Of course there wasn't homework but still, we're in *** college. Every. Thing. Counts. I want to get as close to 4.0 as possible. I don't care if you just want 2.0. I want to get my GPA up.

I like chicken. I like it a lot. I just need more than George Foreman grilled chicken with some McCormick seasoning on whole wheat bread lol.

Do you prefer something for your Foreman Grill or just anything?

Foreman or Crockpot makes my life much more manageable. I have 21 credit hours, 15 work hours, and my own small business. Time is not a luxury I have much of.

Hrrrmmm...I was going to suggest chicken breasts with squash and zuchinni with some garlic and parmesan. The chicken kind of absorbs all the juices from the veggies. I have better luck grilling asparagus on the Foreman than a regular grill.

Crockpots...Well, the only thing I really do in crockpots is roast or chili. Pretty standard. Leila might have something.

Shouldn't they be fighting for the evaluations? I mean wouldn't saying your against it basically say "I want to be lazy at my job!"? Living in a state/area that does evaluations on teachers/professors, it won't get them fired but I think they get to read the suggestions after the grades are turned in and it seems like sometimes, they get better with it. Flav, come to a Michigan university like Michigan State or UofMichigan, hell even Wayne State Univeristy is a good one (none of those I go to but they're good schools) You will probably get better teachers for the money you pay. Or if you want one close to Chicago, you can go to Grand Valley State University in the Western part of Michigan.
I'm done with school man... unless I choose to go back and get my M.B.A eventually...

It depends on how the evaluation is done, really. If the evaluation is flawed, then it is more beneficial to not get evaluated. I think he said they evaluate the students, and not the teachers. They are fighting that evaluation, unless I read it wrong.
The current evaluation standard on the tables is to evaluate the teachers based on the performance of their students... It is unbalanced in that some schools generally underperform and they are afraid that the teachers at those schools would be open to getting fired easily just because they're in underperforming schools... It can be unfair that way... but they do need a way to evaluate and weed out shitty workers...

they need to find some compromise that motivates people to find a way to improve the education system and get more kids to graduate... if you leave somebody in a position where they are almost untouchable and put them in a less than optimal environment what motivation do they really have to improve?

Goosh! I would totally drop my job and get my teacher's cert. in TX did that! That much compounded with the time I could spend with the bambino/a would be heavenly!

Here it's dependent on what part of TX you live in. The standard for suburban schools is like $35K or so starting out. I think it's somewhere in the $25Kish area if you're rural. I assume urban areas is higher. (Most of my friends who teach are in suburban areas of Houston, Dallas, and Austin.) They do receive a tenure and an additional amount tagged on to their salary each year, but some of my friends who teach middle school and up are completely unsatisfied or have quit.

Some of my friends had to take up waiting or retail jobs for a year or two before they could even jump in because of the mass teacher booting here. Like how *** convenient was that had to go down the year WE graduate?!? There was a lot of mad going around. Especially with the ones who were booted because of their "inexperience" that year. How the *** were people suppose to get experience right out the gate when they kept the ancient ones?!?

AGH! Sorry. I get a little fired up remembering 2008. I love Texas, but JESUS, MARY, AND JOSEPH!!! Education here is ***!

As see how long it takes til people realize it.

Quote:
Ban Dihydrogen Monoxide!

The Invisible Killer

Dihydrogen monoxide is colorless, odorless, tasteless, and kills uncounted thousands of people every year. Most of these deaths are caused by accidental inhalation of DHMO, but the dangers of dihydrogen monoxide do not end there. Prolonged exposure to its solid form causes severe tissue damage. Symptoms of DHMO ingestion can include excessive sweating and urination, and possibly a bloated feeling, nausea, vomiting and body electrolyte imbalance. For those who have become dependent, DHMO withdrawal means certain death.

Dihydrogen monoxide:

is also known as hydroxyl acid, and is the major component of acid rain.
contributes to the "greenhouse effect."
may cause severe burns.
contributes to the erosion of our natural landscape.
accelerates corrosion and rusting of many metals.
may cause electrical failures and decreased effectiveness of automobile brakes.
has been found in excised tumors of terminal cancer patients.

Contamination Is Reaching Epidemic Proportions!

Quantities of dihydrogen monoxide have been found in almost every stream, lake, and reservoir in America today. But the pollution is global, and the contaminant has even been found in Antarctic ice. DHMO has caused millions of dollars of property damage in the midwest, and recently California.

Despite the danger, dihydrogen monoxide is often used:

as an industrial solvent and coolant.
in nuclear power plants.
in the production of styrofoam.
as a fire retardant.
in many forms of cruel animal research.
in the distribution of pesticides. Even after washing, produce remains contaminated by this chemical.
as an additive in certain "junk-foods" and other food products.

Companies dump waste DHMO into rivers and the ocean, and nothing can be done to stop them because this practice is still legal. The impact on wildlife is extreme, and we cannot afford to ignore it any longer!

The Horror Must Be Stopped!

The American government has refused to ban the production, distribution, or use of this damaging chemical due to its "importance to the economic health of this nation." In fact, the navy and other military organizations are conducting experiments with DHMO, and designing multi-billion dollar devices to control and utilize it during warfare situations. Hundreds of military research facilities receive tons of it through a highly sophisticated underground distribution network. Many store large quantities for later use.

When does the season start up there? Makes sense that it would be earlier than down here.

I like that I'm never the one getting up at the crack of dawn and doing the dirty work. As much as I like mucking around in the woods once in a while, I'd rather do it when the sun is out. And hogs! Wild hogs scare the poo out of me ever since I saw...Oh God! Brainfart...The sequel to 'Scilence of the Lambs'...

It really depends on where you are here too... This is just CPS... Argo starts off at around $80k because their in an industrial district and the proerty taxes are high... There are some districts in IL that average $82,000 but again there are also those that average around $35k... Yeah, no one will ever make me understand why but with the recession came huge cutbacks in education... it was right around the time we got out too...

I remember one of my mother's friend taught in a Catholic school despite the pay cut just because she had a little more freedom in the curriculum as far as Literature, and this was in the 90's! Texas has always taught to tests. We had TAAS while I was growing up. Now they have TAKS. From what I understand, it's so much more restraining for teachers than what we had. I remember my teachers complaining about TAAS!

I know I'm totally jumping the gun on this, but I've already been veering towards private school, because at least I know where my money is going and that my kids will have the necessary materials for their education. Montessori, Lutheran, Catholic schools. They only do chapel twice a week for religious schools here from what I understand, so I think that's a fair compromise. I, personally, have never had a huge problem with religion anyway. So, I'm not adamantly against something completely non-secular, but...You know, TX is already editing text books to suit a more religious spectrum and what not, so whatever...

One of the other things is that private schools usually have a better environment on average for teachers...

I went to catholic schools until college and even then I went Jesuit... in any case though... we never really had chapel... every once and awhile we would gather together for an event like easter or christmas and have a school mass but other than that we didn't go at all... with catholic schools you do have a theology class too... but unlike popular belief on these boards they did not teach creationism in science classes lol...
