If you can't afford it, get rid of it like Flavin said.

I don't use mine that often. I use my VISA that racks up Air Miles more than anything when I do decide to charge, but I usually don't whip it out unless I'm on vacation or when Christmas rolls around.

Something like that Flav.

It's like I want to get rid of it, but if I do I won't be able to shop Amazon or Play-Asia. I do still have my original limit on it ($250 limit) so I don't buy too much.

$250 isn't bad. Most people can cover that easily.

I use mine for pretty much everything... have it set to auto pay on the due date and no worries...

It's not that hard to budget yourself... I personally go buy the "don't spend money unless you have it" I also leave enough in there for emergencies that come up so I'm not blindsided... the question is do you want it now and risk the interest you'll be paying the bank or later when you have the cash...

It's not the affordability (I can afford all the things I buy), it's that I get into a "spending" mood when I buy things and end up spending more than I make per week. Right now I've cut down on my spending tho. But it's hard when Blu-Ray are so expensive but all my fav anime from the last 2 years are coming out here already (like Persona 4 the Animation)

I guess it's time for me to start applying for a credit card finally. Hm.

/gasp

Make sure you get a low limit to fight the temptation! The interest on the new-comer cards have a bite to them most of the time!

I don't actually need to buy much. It would mostly be for cash back on groceries and minor online purchases (books when I need them, and such).

I'm pretty responsible with money. I think it comes from never having had it much as a kid.

I'd also like to have one for when I do need to make a rare big purchase (I'll probably be buying either new laptop parts or a mac soon, and don't feel like waltzing to the store with 1-3k$ on me).

rules of CC:
-You will have a crap limit ~_~ with a crap rate(your looking at best 16% maybe around 23%
-never go over 40% of the limit unless you have too. Otherwise it looks bad on your credit.
-never max is out ever. going over your limit(even if fees are the case) can very well lower your score 50~100 points. you think you have a bad rate now LOL
-The amount you use is per month; thus till the new cycle starts you are on that X limit. Paying it down mid month might open up more of the line but it still counts to the cycle.
-Last rule: you really should not be scared of a CC. In the long run if you use if to gain points and when you dont fell like you should carry cash around it is a great thing to have.

Or you might not have the cash on hand this second but your next paycheck is in a few days. Just dont use it to the point where your paycheck for the month could not pay the card off in hole. and for the love of god pay more then the min!

oh ya when shopping for one dont let them pull your credit over and over. you wont get a card like that. Find a bank that offers a student card. If for some odd reason you you cant get one do a secured card(its your own money but it builds credit)

I don't charge for goofy BS like Blu-Rays. That kind of stuff is in the impulse buy category for me. Do I really need it? No, I really don't. Netflix, Red Box, etc. It has to be something really spectacular for me to throw down money on something like that.

/mumbles under breath

Clothes and now baby furniture and junk is my impulse buy du jour. Well, clothes has always been.

And I did treat myself to GW2, but that was only $60. :/

You can usually get a student credit card. There's tons of kids with no credit but they can still get a credit card with like $500 when they're 18.

THOSE HAVE THE CRAZIEST INTEREST RATES!!! BEWARE!

My bank gave me one easily, mainly cuz it's a credit union.

I need to check my credit to see what it is. I'm scared to see if it's bad (because of my stupidity years ago when I was with my ex)

I wonder if I could get a non-student credit card. I have a stable job and have never been in debt. I have a good amount of money in my checking/savings and have never overdrawn.

Maybe tomorrow I go to Chase and talk it out? Is that how these things work? I mean, I know you can apply online but that feels kind of scary.

you would be shocked how fast you can improve your score in a few years. month to month it wont change much but in 6 months you can see a big jump and in 2 years(unless you went bankrupt) it can be great depending how much you owed.

If you have an account with chase and you have a decent amount of money in your account they will give you a card... they especially like it if you use direct deposit (love direct deposit)... If you have an account with them already though and have already done these things I'm surprised you haven't been preapproved already... either way... you sit down with one of those guys and they'll be able to tell you right away... they're usually pretty eager to dole em out...

Oh and if you are already pre approved then the process is really very simple... they just process the request and in about 2-4 weeks they mail you the card... freedom is pretty nice from chase too... simple card... no fees... and 1% back on all purchases...

If you aren't preapproved (which I don't think you should have a problem) then you just apply and they look over your stuff and approve or deny you...

I remember when I first got mine way back when I first started working after I finished school they denied me lol... after one paycheck hit the bank direct deposit I was getting mail saying I was preapproved for a card... I thought that was fairly humorous at the time lol...

Sounds like I'll head out there after my paychecks clear. Direct Deposit seems to take a few days :(
