It's not German.
It's named after its creator.
"In the United States, German chocolate cake, originally known as German's chocolate cake, is a layered chocolate cake filled and topped with a coconut-pecan frosting. It owes its name to American Sam German, who developed a brand of dark baking chocolate used for the cake. Sweet baking chocolate is traditionally used for the chocolate flavor in the actual cake, but few recipes call for it today. The filling and/or topping is a caramel made with egg yolks and evaporated milk; once the caramel is cooked, coconut and pecans are stirred in.[1] Occasionally, a chocolate frosting is spread on the sides of the cake and piped around the circumference of the layers to hold in the filling. Maraschino cherries are occasionally added as a garnish."
Also it's mediocre at best.

Edit: Magnus if overnight mail wasn't so expensive I'd overnight you some red velvet cake from this bakery in town.
That woman makes some great from scratch red velvet. SOOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD! Also you like cooking Magnus. I'll find you a good recipe.
I normally would man, but this diet kinda puts a damper on cake-eating. Although my b-day is coming up... Yeah, I could use a recipe. Red velvet is just chocolate with red food coloring, right?

Sounds good!! I typically only go S of Midtown for events, like the Nascar race, RenFest, etc.

I get our birthday cakes and stuff for home/school at the grocery store bakery. Publix is actually really good. But in a corporate office, it is paid for by the company, so yeah, they like to splurge!

No, for a basic cake yes that works.
But for red velvet and other cakes they just screw it up IMO.

Also Mag. real fast go to that link and watch the vid.
Is it just me or with that pic and that music does it not come across like you're watching cake porn?

It's not as good as it sounds. It's no olive garden or anything. It's a pretty normal buffet. There's a kids section that has the best chicken tenders and their ranch is pretty good. They have shrimp, tilapia, bunch of pizza, cheese rolls, cinnamon rolls, pasta with 3 red sauces and 1 alfredo, dessert bar, and they have this BBQ section that has cornbread and that kind of fixings.

I generally start out with the chicken tenders and shrimp with some ranch and a cinnamon breadstick, for the second plate it's usually tilapia with another cinnamon breadstick and whatever else sounds good. For dessert I like to get a chocolate ice cream sundae with a brownie mixed in with sprinkles and mini M&Ms.

/fatty

I seriously hope that isn't your standard for good Italian....
