I have a confession.
I celebrate Chinese Wednesday on Monday, not Wednesday. Onion powder is at least acceptable. I use that all the time. Same with garlic powder. :3

when I was a little kid (3~4yrs old?), after work, my Grandpa would get a beer, make a cucumber-tomato-onion (sprinkled in lime juice and salt)dish and sit on the living room and watch TV, id just stand there besides me and eat with him, especially the onion.
