never seen an employer look for gpa, nor have I ever known any HR person to ask about it either. It's really only useful academic wise and for higher learning, and possibly better grants, but real world practicality it's kind of useless. What employers ask people for their gpa? My employer has it built into the resume process online. If you click that you are currently in school or have a degree, one of the things to fill in is GPA.
I also went to a career workshop not long after graduating (I just got my degree a little over a year ago) and they said that GPA is becoming more and more important because there are so many people out there hunting for jobs.
I would say if you are looking to get into any technical type career, then you are expected to have done well in school. If you can't apply yourself in school, then what's to say you can apply yourself at work.
that's a rather *** up employer then.
and like I said overall gpa doesn't mean ***, when it comes down to it, it's a matter of whether or not you know the skills you need to know. Critical thinking > memorization any day.
I'm not saying people should goof off, but I am saying people shouldn't act high and mighty because they have an A average, it in itself doesn't really mean anything other than they spent a lot of time, when it may or may not have been worthwhile.
To me it was a waste of my time to write 1-3 page write ups on "help desk" like seriously the one assignment was to install Windows 7, which even the IT teacher doesn't think the help desk teacher knew how to install. It was a class for morons who have no business being in the IT field, and like I said: I'll be damned if I was going to degrade myself by participating above the bare minimum. (seriously we visited a Help Desk dept. of a University for our final, the one person I talked to was a *** Art History major, while she was "nice" she had no business giving people technical support.
I don't go to a butcher to get my teeth pulled, regardless of how big their fake smile is.
tl;dr it's a matter of principle

It's understandable that it's a matter of principle to you Jet. I can sorta see it from both sides. I've been looking for a job here, and one that came up yesterday was a nightclub seeking to hire 'exotic dancers.' I had been a dancer for my university, but not an exotic dancer. Even so, I said absolutely no to that job, strictly as a matter of principle for it. It might pay well, but I'd honestly rather work at McDonald's.

That makes me never want to work for Hollister. It's not that I think I'm too ugly. On a scale of 1-10, I'd say I'm about a 6 or 7. I'm not drop-dead-gorgeous, but I'm not ugly either. But just the fact that these people care most about looks as a hiring criteria makes me not really interested. I could bleach and perm the hell out of my hair, tan myself into practically a different nationality, and smother myself in powder, paint, and makeup, get contacts instead of my glasses, and probably be much cuter than I am now. But it's against my principles simply because I think women are worth more than being looked at.
Anyhow, that got off-topic. I think GPA is not as important as knowing how to do things, but it is important because often times you need a high GPA to get into the college you want or the degree you want. Some of the pre-nursing and pre-veterinary students I knew were constantly terrified for their grades, because coming in .001 percent behind one of their classmates could mean that they couldn't get into their nursing or vet school of choice.

anyhow heyo all! I think I read recently that it's not illegal to look at kiddie porn, it's just illegal to distribute and/or make it. I think that is only true if they can't prove that you actually looked for it. Like if you visited a site unknowingly and it was there, you're not a fault kind of deal.

child pornography is illegal due to the fact that children are exploited in making it (which is why the watchers and distributors I find shouldn't be slammed so hard, but they are the market in theory) but the creators.
But cartoons, nobody is being exploited, why is it illegal in some areas? just because people don't like it? what's next? violence?

still think it depends on the class, but whatever floats your boat. (at least most of your classes would be worthwhile, and useful)

I personally don't really care about cartoons because those kids are fake. You can't hurt a fake kid. But I can see how some people could be upset over it, something something slippery slope into looking at real kid porn, something something. (Although I should say that I personally don't usually agree with these 'slippery slope' arguments. A lot of them seem a bit fat-fetched. Like if we allow homosexuals to marry then we have to allow people to marry their hamsters. >.> lol no.)

I can't see it unless it's a pure emotional reaction, also I find a severe difference between let's say 15-17, and 5-7, and while I'd like to go to the emotional response in calling those people sick, I understand that people can't help what they are attracted to, and instead of having an emotional reaction to it, they should be studied, and get "help" if they so want it, to prevent people from getting hurt. Dunno, thoughts...

Oh, I completely agree with you on that, Jet. By the time someone is 16 or 17, I think they are old enough to choose for themselves. If you can go away to war at age 18, then I really think you can have sex by then as well. I think of kid porn as more a pre-teen or under 10 age group. Coincidentally, around the age of my own nieces and nephews, which does make it an emotional reaction for me on some levels. And I think that a pedophile should be taken away from kids so he/she can't hurt any more of them, but they should also receive help for it.
