Casuals have been an issue far before Facebook.

The people I know that play Farmville still don't have a single console. I don't even know any casual games that have been released for consoles recently outside of Wii games. Nintendo has always been casual.

FPSs were all about online play before Facebook got big, so don't even bring that up.

You're missing or ignoring the issue here.

Look at any sequel to a past game, and you'll notice it's largely "dumbed down" from the original. From Mass Effect 2 removing the whole armor system and weapon upgrade system, to Black Ops taking out anything at all that's "fun", People are catering more to the people that are undecided about the games. If they're more accessible, more people will buy them. That means people forgo fun to give a game a wider appeal.

What this means for the game industry is that we'll continue to see worse and worse games over the next however many years, until Facebook inevitably dies out.

To put this in perspective for a moment, I can't find the actual numbers but Black Ops is the highest-grossing game of all time, with Farmville right behind. The next 10 or so games are also Facebook games.

What you have to realize here is that the REASON all SE games have sucked since 2000~ is because they're trying harder and harder to make their games seem less RPG and more appealing to the masses. Meaning you'll lose more and more of what makes the game fun, just so they can make more money.

Well, I don't know about you, but I've had no problem with SE lately. I'm probably going to get The 3rd Birthday as well. Looks really fun.

The Mass Effect 2 change was a huge upgrade imo. The armor system was pretty bad in the first one, and honestly useless since you would find so much stupid ***that would take up space. I cannot stand playing ME1 compared to ME2.

Black Ops was just different. If anything, they added more fun stuff. They just have balancing issues.

I'm glad you finally understand how any business anywhere works.
Simply said, deal with it. I have no problem with gaming nowadays. Most games take out all the useless, time consuming ***old gaming used to have.

Just because a game took 200 hours to beat, doesn't mean even 70% of it was fun.

Edit: inb4 you have no taste in gaming. We all know that you're the godfather of hip things to play.

I don't think there's a such thing as "Bad taste" when it comes to games. Music, movies, TV shows, books, sure. Not games. All games have redeeming qualities that would make them worthwhile to spend time on.

Problem is, some of us care about our games on a deeper level. There are people that just accept games as they are, like you, and there are people that see the potential in gaming, and get disappointed seeing the industry heading in the opposite direction, like me.

To put that a different way, there are people that are content running in with an AT4 and noob tube and just ruining the experience for everyone else. You can attest to this. Then there are people that play to preserve the spirit of the game. I can't even use a UMP45 in MW2 or AK74 in Black Ops because it's just not fair to me.

Make a fantastic game yourself then if you really want one. Give a business one reason to spend a chunk of cash on a game that would only appeal to a small amount on a chance to even break even, let alone profit.

"To appeal to fans?" Lol, okay.

I understand what you want, but you gotta be realistic. I know you hate Japanese games, but they still make huge RPGs over there. People that want those kinds of games? They buy Japanese imports. You don't have to go all weeaboo, but don't complain when there are options out there.

Yeah you just kept playing till you beat it cause you couldn't save. Loved how you could actually keep them on forever and not have any problems.

Valve has been making games for 12+ years that cater to hardcore fans and they're one of the leading developers out there.

You seem to be misinterpreting what I'm saying. Game companies are taking the easy way out by changing a game to suit people other than the people that originally bought it. I have no problem with developers making more money, but at least do it in a way that DESERVES the extra money. Don't try to make a game so simple my four-year-old brother can play it.

Black ops?
Funny story, actually.

Yesterday, on MW2, there were 220k people on the Xbox version.

That's like as many people as Black Ops has. Lots of people are realizing that MW2 truly was about the best FPS game we're going to get for a while.

Looking forward to MW3 but not going to look TOO forward to it. Been disappointed by a lot of games lately.

I wish people would go on a limb and try homefront. It is MW2 quality :/ I have to say for me it's BF3 I'm waiting for.

I am still planning on picking up Homefront. Idk how long it will be until I do, though. With such a short campaign, it feels like I'm only buying 75% of a game, so I don't want to pay the full 60 dollars.

Vehicles are one of the things I can't stand about most FPS games. World at War is the only recent CoD game that had that kind of vehicle in it and I would go out of my way to blow them up before I used one myself.

Campaign is short. But it doesn't lack quality that's for sure. And the online is fun as hell.

I lost interest in Monster hunter. I downloaded the rom for Monster Hunter...Freedom or something I can't remember. I spent like 2-3weeks trying to save up money and then one day I set my game on sleep mode. woke up and all my money was gone. After that I said *** it and removed the iso from my memstick.

That and I'm realizing how many awesome games the PSP has >_> I got like 10 I wanna get. Most of my campus friends have PSPs so it's pretty cool.
