Gaymer Convention

I don't get why a person's sexual orientation should have anything to do with gaming.

My guess is that the event exists for people to find dates who'll put up with their gaming addictions. I feel like a lot of people go to other conventions and stuff like that for similar reasons. It just happens that at this event, people can flirt to their hearts' content with the gender(s) of their choice without having to worry as much about making anyone feel uncomfortable.

On topic: not me, never heard of it. :]

Ah ok, I was looking at it as a gaming convention and not so much a social event; I can see how it would be nice to have a partner who plays vg.

There is also just a lot to be said in general for "gay" spaces. The point isn't to be exclusive or chase away heterosexual people, but to create an environment where sex is either irrelevant or can be approached from alternative points of view.

Why is this necessary? Because people are people and people are obsessed with sex. Films, advertisements, conversation topics, forum avatars... sex pervades every aspect of our daily lives. That's not to say that everyone is actively thinking about getting it on all the time (OK maybe), but it's easy to see why people with a similar approach to gender/identity/etc. might want to find and associate with each other in a space that celebrates a common interest like gaming or choir. Less waiting out uninteresting conversations about boobs, for example. *shrug*

It's the same idea as other minority spaces.

Well it's the first gaymer convention ever. And it was funded through kickstarter. Nifty right? No clue if it's going to be a flop but it's being held a mile or two from my house and it's only $35 (with discount) to attend. Might as well swing on by to check out the boys. I mean events. lol. But yes social event it is.

They're one of the worst things religion ever made.

They're not a "Church," they're a cult. A cult of pure hatred. I've seen them in action before, and just thinking about them makes my blood boil.

But anyways, this sounds like a cool social convention, but as far as a gaming-convention goes, how big will it be? Will there be announcements for stuff?
Is there a reason to go other than beeing gay and meet other "gaymers"? :P

I think there are a number of issues in the gaming community against LGBT's (harassment, name-calling, etc. and so forth and so on) that LGBT gamers might be wanting a forum to discuss and gain support.

I can definitely see benefit for them in this regard.

Please record this. This is going to be one of the most awkward conventions ever.

Nah, I've been to a Furry convention. You literally cannot beat that in awkwardness unless you like, have a People with Extreme Social Disabilities Convention.

Have you ever had someone come into your hotel room unnanounced, sit on your floor, announce to everyone that you have amazing eyebrows, and then eat all of your pizza? Yeah that happened.

I see no reason why it's gonna be awkward, belive it or not, most gay people act just like any straight person :p

Normal people going to a gamer convention, so it'll be awkward, but just as awkward as any other gaming convention!

I'd be interested in going, but I'm curious what the dress code is. I've... seen things in San Fran that I could've lived my life comfortably without having seen.
