Since there is much more traffic here, im posting this here as well

I ran the FFXIV Benchmark test and got some pretty low numbers. I love FFXI and am impatiently waiting for FFXIV. I really need a way to improve my computer and i was wondering what the best way to go about that is. Im not too good with computers but I know some basics

No one make fun of me but here is the report XD

hmm the weakest link defo the vid card and i assume thats also a laptop, meaning u cant upgrade the vid card unlike a good desktop.

min requirments for vid card on ARR beta are:

VIDIA® Geforce® 8800 or higher
ATI Radeon™ HD 4770 or higher

Recommended System Requirements:

VIDIA® Geforce® GTX 660 or higher
AMD Radeon™ HD 7950 or higher

Sorry bud. It looks like you're on an older laptop. There's no way to improve that laptop enough to play FFXIV. You'd need to replace the processor and the videocard. And you'd need a pretty substantial jump for both.

You're better off buying a $300 AMD APU laptop or building a desktop system.

You can't upgrade the graphics most likely. And even if you could, you couldn't upgrade them enough to matter. They'd cap out much lower than the minimum requirements. :(

laptops generally are not able to upgrade their vid cards and those that can only have limited upgrade options.

you options are buy an overpriced laptop ($_$), or a decent gaming desktop which can be had for less that $1k usd.

The AMD Athlon(tm) X2 Dual Core Processor L310 is also not going to run FFXIV above 5fps no matter how hard you push it. It's just not fast enough.

Any Laptops you would recommend that are cheap and would run xiv?

You could probably build a mid-low range PC fairly capable of handling ARR on lowish-mid settings for around $400. ...Or you can buy a ps3/4 and play on console?

Sorry man. Good news is, well... sorta good... You can pick up a $300 AMD APU system with an A6, A8, or even an A10 processor that will blow your old laptop away.

We're talking several hundred magnitudes better. You'll certainly notice a difference. :)

here is a link to a good site with some basic options depending on budget, prices are in AUD so just price em up on newegg

http://pcpowerplay.com.au/forums/showthread.php/240313-PCPP-Build-Thread

i am looking at the 1.5k or 2k AUD as a guide.

oh and imo laptops have never been good gaming pc's compared to cheaper and more powerfull desktops, laptops always suffer from a shorter lifespan due to the severly limited upgrade path.

Check out this one, or this one here. Both will play it above the lowest settings.

Nooooooooo. That's an AMD C series laptop. While better than what you have, it's going to be awful for gaming. The C series is designed for low power. Think netbook or tablet.

You can probably catch a good refurb deal on newegg for close to $300 on an AMD A6 system. Lemme see if I can find anything...

Check out this one, which is $314 after mail in rebate. And it's plenty powerful to run it on or slightly above low settings.

Or, if you hate mail in rebates, this one here at $335 will do the same thing, only it will probably force you into the lowest settings.

The first one is noticeably more powerful, and (after MIR) cheaper.

:( That's the E1 series... While better than the C series, it's still considered low power. The Hierarchy goes C, E(1,2), A4, A6, A8, A10 for laptops.

You need to at least be in the A4-A8 range.

How opposed are you to building a desktop? I mean you might be SOL without a monitor, but you could build a capable pc for 300. Or as I mentioned before, PS4/PS3 is not a bad option.

Problem with this is that i do a lot of travel and i like to play in different areas off the house (example if im making/eating some food i like to bring my laptop so i can continue to play ffxi). This is why i would really like a laptop as opposed to a ps3/4 or desktop which are obviously constrained to their respective places.

At $315 USD, this system is probably your best bet.

Plus, it's an ASUS system... If you've never dealt with ASUS before, their customer service and support divisions are amazing. I sent back a laptop once and got one twice as fast back with a personal note from some guy saying he was sorry I had issues, and that he hopes I enjoy my new (upgraded) laptop. I was pretty stoked.

I don't think you'll be disappointed. It comes with all the new bells and whistles, such as HDMI, USB 3.0, Windows 8 (love it or not... it's the way forward :| ) 500gigglebyte Hard drive, 4gigglebytes of RAM (memory to run programs/games with) and probably extra stuff.
