I plan to play ffxiv, and was wondering if I should buy the ps3 version or the pc version.

Questions I have are, do you need to gear swap constantly like in ffxi, are there macros?
Would a windower application help enhance gameplay like it does with 11.
Could ps3 have such an application.

Dual-boxing friendly? Or rather would it be beneficial?

I'm inclined to play on PC. The reason being, at some point down the road, I'm sure we'll all be talking about PS3 rimitations. I'm also confident that some kind of "windower" will be developed and be considered a must have. The presentation that PC brings to the game is also superior to that of it's PS3 counterpart. Just a few thoughts...

Gear Sawp: You can't switch gear while med battle so gear sawp is pointless. SE did make a gear sawp system but it's only useful for switching from job to job or if you want ot make a gear sawp from Town Gear--> Battle gear.

Windower: PS3 can't use 3rd party tools but SE would be supporting Addon and SE is going to release a dev kit to make addon for the PC version. So the used for 3rd party application may be useless. Not if you want to do things that are not allow by SE like dat change, bots, and such. SE did say that the best addon from the PC would later make it into the PS3 by update.

Dual-Boxing: In FFXIV the battle speed is very fast. Also no one would really fight random mobs for exp due to how low exp you gain from mobs outside. So powerlevel would be pointless from level 15-50. In ffxiv there be dungeons finder which would match you up with other players looking to do the same dungeons and it would also match you up with people from other servers so get into one pretty quick.

FFXIV ARR have fix many issue that FFXI had that made you dual box or use 3rd party tools so most of it is not needed.
Overall i would say PC due to the DX11 update that would be added later down the road. The fact that PC get addon and you can use Vent,mumble,TS3 without having a phone or laptop near you.

FFXIV going to have NA,EU,JP servers so when you join FFXIV make sure you pick the one near you for less lag. We still be playing with PC/PS3 players.

If you need anymore information just let me know.

Hey Zenaku I got a question, when you mean it's going to have NA/EU/JP servers ofc we'd still be able to play with these people from other regions despite which one you choose..?

Or is it going to be region locked?

And I can not for the life of me find somewhere in UK to preorder mine for PC ><

If you have a good enough PC, get the PC version. If you're unsure, run the benchmark.

If the PC version runs poorly for you or you can't, get the PS3 version.

It's not region lock but i'm sure the JP players base would ask us NA,EU to not enter there servers. When FFXIV was first release they pick 3 worlds and ask us to not join them we still did lol. But i myself would be joining a NA world with my endgame shell.

For CE you can buy it at
http://www.shopto.net/video%20games/pc/PCFI37-final-fantasy-xiv-a-realm-reborn-collectors-edition-with-early

For the normal version you can buy it at
http://www.shopto.net/video%20games/pc/PCFI32-final-fantasy-xiv-a-realm-reborn-with-early-access-bonus-content

You can also buy it from SE Store.
http://eu.finalfantasyxiv.com/en/product/

hope that helps.

For FFXI you can just buy the PC version and play on xbox or ps2 just buy getting your friend CDs.

But for FFXIV if a PC player want to play on PS3. They need to buy a PS3 copy of the game and add the code to there Square enix account. Same for PS3 if they want to play on PC.

So you need to buy two copy of the game if you want to play on both system.

Get the PC version if you can, It looks MUCH better than the ps3 version, in all of the beta videos of the ps3 version it shows incredibly choppy framerates and noticebly lower graphics/resolution than the pc version.

I thought about getting both, but now i think i'll just stick with the pc version.

Will that the PS3 you get what you get it's only going to display 30fps while PC can do 60fps if that matter overall i pick PC.

sure except if you play on pc with an fps gauge, you can clearly see that the ps3 version is running MUCH lower than 30fps. probably around 15fps if i had to say.

It's that bad. If you can TELL that it's running choppy, it's safe to say it's under 30fps.

honestly the difference between 30fps and 60 fps is pretty minimal, but you can definitely tell when something is under 30fps, the difference is that big.

edit- I would like to challenge you to go back and find the PS3 Beta videos and stream them fullscreen in HD (highest quality available) and try to see if you can spot the differences. (they show ps3 vers/pc version as a comparison on the same video)

I don't understand why you making this into a challenge when i'm agreeing with you? or you don't get that point? All i'm saying is it wont be that bad at release they can't sell it with that bad FPS. I would say build a PC for around 400-500 that would play the game 100x better then PS3 that what i'm getting at lol.

I don't think they be a Digital download for the CE for PS3. At least not anytime before release but maybe who knows.

Update: Gear Sawp: Today post about gear Sawp

Quote:
While you can change equipment during battle, the development team confirmed that the battle system wasn't designed to offer that as an advantage. The purpose of the Armoury Chest and gear sets are simply to facilitate changing gear and additional inventory for gear and were not created to be used as a strategy during battle.

I'm hoping they don't allow this because i don't want to worry about getting 2-3 set of gear per job and also melds o.o

:( This makes me worry that the battle system is going to be too simple to keep an adult player interested.

That w/out gear swapping and party dynamics is what I am afraid of. I never played FFXI like that either.

They said that they are going to make endgame events more challenging to compensate for non gearswapping and the easyness of grinding/leveling throughout the game.

so I think some of these endgame event's are going to tough enough to keep us coming back for more hopefully.

There are plenty of online games that don't use battle gear swapping.

It was nothing but tedious in XI and I'm glad it won't be returning here.

Also to the windower comment, please please please stop thinking this is ran by the same Tanaka run developer team. The plug in/add on API will be release to the public at the start of 2014.

I always found gear swapping to be the central basis of FFXI and what made it interesting. I was sad when they went away from that with 14.

It is looking like the main appeal of the game might be the visuals.... and lets hope there is a kick a$$ in depth story line! Still hoping for some party dynamics but that seems to have gone the way of the dodo the past phew years. No SC+MBish party timing.....no kyteing......Please SE ... NO... MORE....ZERGS! :P

Oh and to stay on OP topic PC for meh!

FFXIV have 3 story plots

The City's
The beastmen
The Garlean Empire

So i'm going to guess that the storyline going to be pretty good :) also the final fight to get the relic was hard and fun :) Ifrit fight :)

Here is the said comparison from a few days ago, it seems pretty accurate to me since its about the same as comparing PC to PS2 for FFXI. I'm probably going to do the same as I did with 11, start on the console until the parts get cheap enough for me to play on a PC. [Although it looks so pretty on PC which is really tempting me to just shell out the money]
