I don't have a problem with them being useless.

The quote fits the person.

I don't mind working for new things, it is why I made all of the previous weapons in the first place.

Their hiding it from the English speaking population, right now the Japanese are spamming the ***out of delve non-stop to get points.

This update effectively shuts down delve for casual players. Even if your skilled and well geared, unless your in a big HNMLS you have a snowballs chance in hell of getting anything from this because you need 17 other people who are equally as geared / skilled and on the right jobs at the right time. Easy for people with no jobs or limited social activity, nearly impossible for everyone else.

I think it's more of a "Hmmmm maybe this will make people do Skirmish..."

Nah, but now it's time for those who trolled people about the R/M/E issue to start complaining, and I say we're there to make fun of them!

Then again, maybe SE wasn't happy pissing off only half of the playerbase, they wanted to piss off everyone!

I realize that this is completely inapplicable to you, but one of the reasons having R/M/E as an established top tier was handy, is that it "completed" a slot for a job. This allowed you to focus on other jobs you like to play, as opposed to spending all of your time on the treadmill for the same job.

One of XI's strengths has always been the job system, and further complicating the process of topping out a job negates some of its allure.

Even when I made the best weapon, the job was far from complete.
For a long time I always had things to collect like the vampiric set, or other niche items.

It (completion) hardly stopped with the weapon.

Thing about Urt is he plays very few jobs, all of them are Dark Knight. Kinda like Batman but not as rich.

Nah he's just a troll. He gets a kick from stiring up sh!t and trying to provoke others into fights.

right, and collecting small stuff like that is fun when we know you are set in other slots. At this pace, you will never be set in any slots the way it is. If you have one job then yes, it is possible, much like WOW you have one character and it is cool to get new stuff each time to keep you going. But for FFXI, each player has so many jobs it is almost never complete, now that you are doing this you are taking that little sense of accomplishment out of everyone. Aiming your game towards only the hardcore players (and FFXI players are already way more hardcore than any other average MMO) is something you don't want to do, especially when those who started 10 years ago are all likely in their 20s and have a rl job.

Idk correct me if I'm wrong but weren't the Skirmish weapons already challenging/beating out R/E/M 99 which is likely the kind of thing that would be needed for anyone that doesn't have delve weapons? If they don't up the drop rate of skirmish entry items that won't go anywhere though.

I know a dude in his 60's who plays. He's retired, though. Personally, this incoming nerf is kinda funny to me, I dunno why.

The answer is pretty simple.
Whatever there is to be made, must be made/acquired.

Skirmish weapons were competitive with RME, which was fine(correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think any actually destroyed the legendaries), although some people already turned up their nose.

I think when the numbers were crunched, Skirmish weapons beat Relics by an insignificant amount, while people felt relics should be boosted just above them, no one was really worried about them.

That's kinda my point, it fits with their goal of creating a new baseline and initiating a gear ladder. Use random crap to do skirmish > field Delve NMs > Dungeon Delve NMs. Of course the AHable weapons go around skirmish but they don't exist for every weapon type.

The AH-able weapons are also going to be very rare/very expensive for a while, as they involve Delve bosses. They won't really circumvent the process for a while, if ever, especially since any group that does the bosses is probably going to keep the crafted weapon in-house.

Until Delve II: Electric Boogaloo, anyway
