Henry and Catherine Schaible violated probation after their second child died as the couple chose faith healing instead of medical care.
The Philadelphia couple was serving a 10-year probation sentence stemming from the death of their first child, after Herbert and Catherine Schaible prayed for their child instead of seeking medical care, reports the Associated Press.
The Schaibles belong to a fundamentalist Christian church, First Century Gospel Church, that practices faith healing, reports Philadelphia Daily News. The couple was on probation for the death of their 2-year-old son, Kent Schaible, who died of pneumonia in 2009. Herbert and Catherine Schaible pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in 2011 and were sentenced to 10 years of probation, with one major component being the couple seek medical care for their children if they became sick, notes AP.

I firmly believe in protecting someone's right to freedom of religion. If someone dies of a disease because they didn't choose to seek medical help, hey.... more resources for the rest of us etc.
HOWEVER, the point at which my *** puckers, is when someone's choice infringes on the freedom of someone else (including those who choose to not have religion but preach twice as loud).
What makes it doubly worse is the children are too young to make this choice or do anything about it. I can't speak for all religion, but I know the Catholic Church offers provisions for the young; such as exemption from the practices of fasting etc. Even the sick are told to use common sense in their actions.
These people are despicable. The husband looks dumb to the world and is probably just a puppet of the wife who looks absolutely evil. I could be wrong.

My daughter got pneumonia this year.
I took her to the hospital.
My wife had a baby last year.
I took her to the hospital too.

These sorts of folk find themselves in front of crowds with pitch forks from time to time.
I wouldn't feel bad if this was one of those times.

they ought to take the priest and any other members of the congregation who knew about the probation in a well. I'm sure they can at least make life hard enough for them to stop preaching that crap.

Fanaticals are always ignorant to trh truth. But typically they lose focus at the part that's most crucial for their faiths: God made Man, Man was introduced to science, Science exists because of God, Science is one of God's tools for healing the sick, in man-made ways, to help us achieve independance like any good father does for their child.
Well, atleast that's my thoughts. So these two derpbags (i don't want to insult douchebags) willingly let their second child die, when by record of court, they were mandated to bring any sick children to an appropriate medical practitioner.

Modern Medicine is the devil's drink. If we were meant to take drugs we'd be able to pick them off trees. If we were meant to fly we'd have wings.
I see my Asprin over there... grinning at me to take some and betray my faith. DAMN YOU ASPRIN, THE POWER OF CHRIST IS ALL I NEED.

Praying doesn't help when you're laying down for the whole day in pain, barely able to get up and use the bathroom even.
Lay down for the whole day in agony or use something that'll get you up and going to work/etc.
Choices...
Then again my mother sent me an all natural migraine reliever, so we'll see if that works.
Until then, pills, away!

A very large portion of the worlds problems are derived directly from religion, that's a fact. In any case, these parents are horrible human beings and a waste of air, regardless of any religious connotations.

"Very large" is subjective. 90%? 50%? 30%?
How do you separate out the conflicts and problems that aren't caused by religion, but by cultural, racial, financial, environmental issues? Sometimes these things overlap with religion and one another. Sometimes religion is but an excuse which could easily be replaced by something else.

I think once you legit buy into the idea that you have spiritual superiority over other groups (which most religions peddle) you're on the fast track to exhibiting many of the worst aspects of human behavior. The reality is that most people twist religious faith into systems that mesh with their own internal moral metrics regardless of what the official rulebook says so when they see something like this happen (fundies) it's like "this ain't my religion!" which is technically correct and technically false.
I read a brilliant article that paralleled this phenomena to how fans react to changes in the canon of various media and much of the behaviors line up. They used Star Wars as an example to make it easy enough for any dummeh to understand and how George Lucas envisioned Star Wars versus how fans envision the series and how many of broken into various factions ranging from pro-Lucas to heretical factions that want to throw Lucas into a meatgrinder XD
This isn't to say you can't do horrible things without buying into a faith but lets be serious here, most people are emboldened by the tenets of their faith to do horrible things because they can utilize text to justify it. In this case the brainwashing effect of religion "don't trust yourself or anyone, trust the almighty" resulted in the death of a child.

I say expose the parents to the most sick of people and let them catch something.. and see if they can just pray it away from themselves.
Best punishment I can think of, dying in agony trying to believe in something that won't help you.
