Character Names / Linkshell Names

Not really sure if this has been discussed before, but don't you think character names should be relinquished if an account is cancelled for a certain amount of time? By certain amount of time, i mean like a year of cancellation. Same goes for Linkshell names if the holder doesn't play anymore and didn't actually delete their account, it should just break. Same for bannings, why should one tool erase the name for everyone. I guess this could just be on a long laundry list of things SE needs to address but probably not that important.

Unless I'm totally wrong but I think as long as you don't delete, you hold that name / linkshell name forever? As long as you don't bounce servers.

Yes. Of course, I'm still salty about the server merge, where I lost my name (which I'd had for like 6 years) to someone who doesn't even play. For duplicate names, oldest account should have carried the day.

Anyway, it would be nice if they'd free up names after an account is inactive a year, absolutely.
