Hey all, been wondering when I should use the chocobo dye I have. Hell, not even sure HOW to use it. I DO know I should only use it when I am ready to retire the chocobo? (Cause I dont think you can dye a retired one right?) So if anyone has some info on this. Would be helpful. Thanks. =)

So what do you all usually do? Dye it and wait for it to force retire? Also the guide posted mentions nothing about chocobo dye sadly. As for the dye and npc. I think I tried trading it to the npc and it didnt do anything. So that made me wonder. It IS supposed to be the Chocobo breeder npc that you have it stabled with right?

Ok so I guess I may elaborate on this. The best time to use the dye is when you are certain the stats on your chocobo will not change. So, immediately before retiring your chocobo (or around day 129 before forced retirement) or after it has already been retired. With retired chocobos, you can only dye the chocobo on your whistle. If you change the chocobo on your whistle, the dye will be removed and you would have to re-dye the chocobo if you decided to use it on your whistle again (granted you wanted it colored again).

So you CAN dye it after a chocobo is retired you are saying?

Also the question remains, which npc? Cause even on a retired one, how would the npc know to dye the retired one vs active one? Just so confused by that and dont see a guide or even the item page that goes into detail about how to use the dye and get it applied.

You dye a chocobo because you want to be seen riding a spiffy colored chocobo. Therefore, the chocobo which you want to dye should be the chocobo registered to your chocobo whistle.

Make sure you register the chocobo (preferably retired) you want to your chocobo whistle via the chocobo trainer of your home nation (Hantileon@Sandy, Zopago@Bastok, Pulonono@Windy). Then take the chocobo dye to the VCS Chocobuck Exchange Vendor located outside the entrance to your home nation's Chocobo Race Center (Palabelle@Sandy, Gavoroi@Bastok, Robino-Mobino@Windy).
