If you think about it, this is actually a smart move by SE.
This can potentially drive people out of the mines and back into the dunes / Qufim island / Jungle for levels 10-30.
They say it'll double dedication effects as well. So does that mean (X*y%)X 2? IE (500*200%)*2 = 2,000?
Finally a reason for 6 man parties again for leveling and bringing back people actually learning to play their jobs.
Good thing I still have my Anniversary ring and Kupofried's Ring. :)
I'm just wondering how Dyna is going to hold up during these days. People will be swarming there for exp, which will be a smart move for everyone.

To GET TO abyssea. Aby exp is still stupid fast. It's not like Aby is getting an exp penalty...

With a decent group that remembers the old days, they'll be able to burn faster in a six man group than aby burn.

You would need more time to get to the next camp with your group than actually fighting and getting exp.

I can't understand SE, they already bombed up the exp a lot. Remember the times before Level Sync?
Where you needed more than a day to reach max. level.
Now you don't even need a whole day to max lvl , so why the event? To pump up all the other jobs to 99 , or to keep players who want to quit for FFXIV?
I don't think that they want to get people to play in "normal" 6men parties , this won't work because they can have it easier after the event anyways...via abyss <.<. There are so many players who play 5 times and get maxlvl and think they're FFXI pro, they dont even care for missions and quest anymore D:...
Personally, i miss the times where you just got around your max. 200exp and maybe a bit more through normal parties in places like bibiki bay. Maybe i'm just and "old schooler" who misses the fun times, but SE kinda drains the fun out of this game.
This exp event made me finally realize to quit and wait for FFXIV, FFXI already got a damn high exp rate, no need for an event :/ I wish they would make more out of FFXI it hurts to see what became of it.

If you havent realized the EXP will also work in dynamis and that you should take the opportunity like everyone else and grind out EXP in dynamis with an 18 man party on DC's then i just dont know what to tell you. Maybe you should leave the game and clear the air of the disappoint that is there for no reason whatsoever like the rest of the people that ragequit after aby and HNM "revamp".

Also, this actually calls for MORE page burning. As you will get stupid high amounts of EXP from the mobs and then you will also get page EXP. The fastest leveling will be FoV/GoV. Dynamis will definitely be flooded...but players should do this as 18 man alliances and mass murder the DC's,but that wont happen.

I think it would be funny and actually kind of cool if once a year they did like "Retro FFXI" weekend.
Kind of turn everything (would have to be just pre-75 stuff) back to what it was prior to raising the level cap.
No GoV.
Original XP rates.
HNMs back to spawn timers.
Dynamis back to the old format (cap at 75) with 18 man alliance.
CoP capped story zones and such.
Switch Sky and Sea back and cap the zones at 75.
Etc etc. Like a renaissance fair or something. See people running around in Walahra Turbans, kitty pants, and Askar bodies. BLM's in Igqira weskit's and SAMs rocking Haguns.
Just for 2 or 3 days once a year. Maybe put in special drops like statues and other decorative pieces of gear.
Just a random thought. And stuff post-75 would be the same I guess. So all the cry babies wouldnt complain about not being able to do anything in the game for a couple days.

@Silver : ONly thing your suggestions would really accomplish is a down spike in the population of the game for the weekend.
Also, why do people insist that Abyssea won't work.
Only thing the message says is that Dom Op exp itself would likely not be affected. You will still be burning 1200 exp per kill of each mob.. so why the complaint? Abyssea will get a renewed interest because of this event. (Unfortunately abyssea leeching is likely what will get a spike.)

I'll never understand this longing some of you have for the "Old Days." 200 Exp a kill, while needing 44,000 wasn't a good thing. Even worse if you were on a job no one really wanted.
Good luck in XIV though, waiting for whenever ARR arrives. Not sure if you actually played it before, but exp was even easier to get in XIV than it was in XI(Solo that is). No one is going to build a game around low to mid-level events. Increased exp, more ways to obtain it, SE wants you at max level as fast as possible no matter how you do it.

Because people incorrectly equate 'leveling' a job as 'learning' the job. The fact is level 75 was an entirely different animal than level 63. Leveling is not learning the job(its grinding and nothing more). The problem with speed leveling is people mistakingly thinking that 'level cap' = G2G.

I like that this is only going to last for 1 day but everyone talks like it's going to last a few months. It's a celebration, and the developers sound like they just want to kick something nice our way. So they had this meeting right. And at the end they go "What can we give them that won't crack the game worse than Abyssea?"
........
.............
"Ok then. Raise the experience levels everywhere that's NOT Abyssea, let it last for a day, and everyone will love FFXI again, sound good guys?"
That's how -I- imagine it went down, anyway :P

Ever a true statement. Experience as a calculated cumulative number of monsters defeated means nothing. Experience measured by time spent with the job means everything. Don't know why I'm reinforcing this idea, I just like it.

I imagine it is also a test of sorts to see how the community responds and how it affects the online users during that weekend.
This is the first time they've done something like this for 11 (and I don't remember 14 having them?). Apparently its a pretty common thing for other MMOs and even online FPS games and such.
So this may not be the last time we see it if there is a spike in online activity. They could also just be testing this out in 11 as an option for 14.

Slycer said: Not really sure what happened, but was double EXP implemented early by accident? It's not really clear from the post (translation). Anyway...
Regarding Double EXP
After the version update the other day, we were surprised by the increased amount of GM calls we were receiving regarding the amount of EXP for the double EXP campaign [[I'm not really clear what he's talking about here, but he's alluding to the fact that the double EXP mechanism might have been turned on early??]].
Anyway, the campaign will be conducted at the end of this week and I'd like to answer a few questions about Double EXP.
Quote: [[Player asks if the location "all of Vana'diel" also includes "other world" areas like Dynamis, Lumoria, Promyvion, etc.]]
Yes, all those areas are included.
Quote: [[Player asks if adventuring fellows also receive double EXP]]
This is only for player characters. We will consider this after the campaign ends; however, and may do this in the future if it won't create any problems.
Follow-up
Regarding the "implementation period" for the campaign, there were some suggestions that it was too short. Although we are not saying that three days is the best duration for something like this, after we take a look at this with some trial and error, we will move to a better policy.
Also, regarding variations to the campaign, we will consider it. Since we prepared the game to allow future campaigns, based on the results of this one, we will decide to what extent we want to implement these in the future. Begins:
Apr 04, 2013 8:00 PST | Ends:
Apr 07, 2013 7:59 PST | Automatically converted to your time zone |
| | | Return of the Double EXP Campaign! (03/29/2013) |
| | | | | | | | At long last, Seekers of Adoulin hits Vana'dielian shores!
To celebrate the beginning of the pioneering endeavors by adventurers all across Vana'diel, we will once again be holding a Double EXP Campaign! This time, in addition to your characters receiving a double EXP boost, your adventuring fellow will also receive the same bonus. |
