Well hello there.

My computer recently died. While it is down, and I await a friend to pick it up to be fixed, I am attempting to install the game onto my fathers laptop.

I had not used my FFXI CDs since 2004. I bought the seven disc version back then, which included Playonline, FFXI, Rize of Zilart and CoP.
I also have TOAU and WotG discs. The original seven discs are scratched a little bit, after they were put away in a cupboard for 8-9 years. My ToaU and WotG discs are like brand new.

I got through the process of downloading a Windows 7 version of Playonline, as this laptop runs a 64 bit version. My first disc worked fine, but then the installation hangs on 27%. Sometimes it gives an error code, other times it just freezes. I am currently paying for three characters and cannot play them, so it would be nice if someone could direct me to somewhere I could download FFXI PC EU Version without having to fork out money to get it off Steam (I am poor).

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

download imgburn, tell it to create an img file from disc, have the disc in the tray, save it to where you want, it should be able to do it as a .iso but without doing it myself, not sure.

I'll go create a temporary account on my server.

I plan to have you upload it via ftp so you'd need filezilla.

(OP you may want to download filezilla as well).

I may look into another way of sharing that.

I so REMEMBER how shoddy the original release FFXI discs were.

A lot of people had to re-image them to be able to install... LOL

If anything, you can torrent the ISOs and download. Or even better, image all of your discs and replace the files on a torrent set with your images (only works if the set is identical as the discs you have), any errors on them will be repaired by the bittorrent client as it downloads the damaged chunks. It will simply think the damaged sections are a unfinished download ... ;)

I still have the case and all the activation codes, but it keeps freezing on the second disc.

So you say I should just convert my discs to ISO and install it that way?

I've looked there already, all I found is one EU disc torrent with zero people seeding... If anyone could find a proper EU version, it would be a great help.

Edit: The error i get on installation says ... Error 1305.Error reading from file C:\Program Files(x86)\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI\sound\win\music\data\music104.bgw. Verify that the file exists and that you can access it.

Yes I do not have anti virus running when I install it. Only gotten up to disc 2 of the FFXI discs, so not sure what other discs won't work. Aht Urhgan and WotG will probably work because they are in excellent condition.

Today I tried converting my disc 2 to an ISO. It would get to 27% and then it would come up with a different error saying that data2.cab is corrupt. I strongly feel the disc is too damaged to continue with the installation.

The only downloadable copy of FFXI on TPB with seeds is an American version. Would I be able to play my EU account on an American game with American Playonline?

I honestly am not sure, Leo would be the person to ask.

let me get a hold of somebody, I'll send them a message here in a few minutes, and hopefully they'll let me remote into their PC again (fixed their install for them before) and make disc images of their discs.

I can start with disc 2, does it literally say disc 2 on it? it's been ages since I've installed the PC version from the CD's instead of the DVD.

I got round this and am playing again, despite having to start from scratch in terms of macros/settings etc.

I downloaded the NA version from TPB, the only one with a good number of seeds, then I got the NA WotG expansion from here >> NA WotG

As I already have an account, I was able to log in right away after going through the 22k+ file update after installing everything. Hope this helps someone who ends up in a similar situation.

Since you no longer need to have POL Viewer match your region to access account management controls, you're fine using US FFXI client.

Only thing you lost is the possibility of playing in French or German ... ;)

Nope. I could cheat though.

Download EU POL for Win7 from FFXI webasite (Apparently it works on XP as well) and play around with the registry and you shall have it work just fine with JP or NA install.

It works fine and I just swap around a few files on FFXI folder (the version check files are different per region) when I want to change JP/EN client.

I remember doing that back when WoTG got released and the PC version in the US was delayed. Downloaded the EU iso on a site and change the registry to make it think it was a US copy

Hello!

I'm having this same problem as of last night. However I am looking for the JP client. I've got all the activation codes registered, currently paying for my character, etc.

Until recently you could download the data from the official site before completing the purchase of the registration code. Come to find out, this changed on January 16th...

Anyone have an image of the JP client disc(s)? Or know a reliable place to get one?
