Not sure where to begin,
This computer i have been using for FFXI has ran fine for about 5yrs now. but recently i have been getting a lot of screen tearing... i never noticed it before as much as i do now... i tried turning on Vsync but then the game starts to stutter/hiccup every few seconds... and now i'm at a loss... i did update to the newest Nivida drivers which is the 310.90 but i didn't notice it till a few days later...
I tried rolling back to the older ones and i still get the same issue.

Any ideas would help
Thanks
Running a Dual Core AMD
GTX 460 Videocard
2gigs of ram.

Like i said this machine has ran the game just fine for 5 years till recently like a week ago.

it could be your PSU is dying or your GFX card is dying.

not sure what else the problem would be other than drivers.

You might want to try a clean install of the older drivers. There should be a nvidia driver removal tool. Use that, then fresh install the drivers that were last working.

Also never hurts to make sure your hardware is all properly seated. Good luck.

I appreciate the help, but I have done that... clean install of windows as well gone to the original drivers that SE said worked and also used the ones that were released a few months back... idk its very weird.

I'm running same card and same version of drivers and not experiencing any issues - even 2-boxing. I always do a clean-install of the nvidia drivers whenever there's an upgrade and never bother with the 3d vision ***.

Good luck, but if I were in your shoes I'd probably take this as an opportunity/excuse for a hardware upgrade. :P

Have you tried turning off all forms of vsync then enable Adaptive Vsync on the nvidia settings? I'm not sure if it'll help, but it's worth a try. According to this article you should have it.

I had this problem with 14... It only happened when I played the game at a resolution that wasn't the same as my screen when using windowed mode. Try changing the resolution of your Windower to the same as your monitor's resolution (assuming you're not) and see if that fixes it.

I don't use windower so that wouldn't be the issue :(

I had a similar issue recently and found a bunch of cat hair in the fan on my video card. If you have not done so, check for a cooling problem.

Are there any for ATI cards? And what about nVidia approved drivers? Can you be more specific?

SE just updated their "official" driver support page;

Here

Albeit, its a rather... tiny list... but may be worth trying.

download driver sweeper reboot into safe mode uninstall the associated drivers then run driver sweeper to remove all remnants and try the ffxi approved drivers page if that fails run the uninstall/sweeper again and reinstall the latest drivers for your card. If that fails i suggest a thorough cleaning of your case check all connections and be sure the card is seated properly if that fails (how old is the card).

I have already done all this... I have reinstalled windows twice now. I'm using drivers from last may atm. Also the card is an Nvidia 460 GTX so maybe 2 years old?

Newest Drivers available for your particular card but double check to be sure they are for your exact card. Also if this fails perhaps its time to look into a newer card. Here is the latest drivers page for drivers dated Jan 5th 2013 http://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/55123. Strongly advised you create a backup/restore point prior to this just to be safe.

Don't want to sound like a jerk but I wish people would read the thread before giving out advice... Everything that Morgish has told me to do has been done if you would just read the thread.
