I've gotten this error browsing this site a few times in the last couple days, be it looking over the forums or AH items.
I am running Firefox on Windows 7 Pro 32 bit. This site is the only one I've been having issues with.

It's been ongoing for a while, think Scragg said he was looking into it already.

Ah, ok. I've just gotten back into FFXI after an 8 month break so I had no idea. Thanks :)

yeah it used to only happen to me in the morning during the sync, it happens often now.
fortunately most of the time now a F5 fixes it, so no biggie.
Scragg's a busy man.

Happens when too many connections happen at the same exact time. The system is updating itself frequently due to the high volume of pings to and from every item on the Auction house, guildworks servers and all the bazaar information. Lastly, the connection you cause tends to be the least priority, thus the error.
It's the holidays. Most of the staff including Scragg is enjoying it. Just deal with it for the time being. I've been getting them too and getting irritated myself but there's nothing 'I' can do about it.

I'm not complaining about it (nor am I getting irritated by it). I mean, this site is a free service that I appreciate, I just wasn't aware if anyone knew about it and figured I would put it out there in case they didn't know.

It's bad maintenance, tolerable for this user base, but not tolerable for a true web admin. Take it fwiw.

Maintenance, or lack of, has nothing to do with a 502 error.

To me it seems like it's more common since the server move.
butt that's just me.
Could also be the increasing severe amount of data on the front page around the same times.
but we have to remember the site is operated at a loss, if we want something fancy like a cluster to handle the load we'd have to donate.
Then we'd have to plead to Scragg to set it up, and he's busy with RL anyway.

It's a free site, get over yourself. There's no guarantee that the site remains operational much less 100% uptime.

You took it the wrong way, it could be on the hosting side as well. I know that 100% uptime isn't usually achievable, but you want to get as close to it as you can.

I can't really wrap my head around how AH manages compile the info it does as quickly as it does, but its invaluable to guy like me who can't camp bazaars and AH for deals. An error like this is really a very small issue considering how much this site gives me free of charge.

Agreed wholly.

I'll remind you of your own words, bold.
I took it for what I wanted, like you said to do. Therefore it's impossible to "take it the wrong way."

this thread should be deleted anyway, since Scragg already made an official response, and most likely fixed the issue.

FYI, everyone: True web administrators are trained in a monastery in the mountains of Spain. Their training is long and arduous, culminating in a true test of mettle in the legendary fires of Mt. Nombreimpresionante, where they are pitted against a never-ending horde of novice users.
