Same for me, tried 3 cards 2x debit and 1 credit all 3 tied to different bank accounts and it wouldnt accept any. The odd thing i found after some digging is the SE account has 3xFFXI and 2xFFXIV the 2 FFXIV renewed with no issue on the 28th and all 3 FFXI failed to renew, all same SE account, same card, been the same way for years. Maybe its like they said above and its a fraud system. ill give it a week and see if i can update to a card again.
Well, the fraud system is a real and consistant thing. Given the number of people reporting issues here, and the fact most of them haven't had issue before, it sounds like this may be an actual technical problem. If it were just the fraud system, wouldn't expect to see so many people having problems out of nowhere.
I have been using the same card for 10 years and got the 601 error. I just tried with 5 different credit cards and all of them came out with the same 601 error. I ended up using PayPal to purchase Crysta. Hopefully, they fix the direct payment soon.
Received this automated message this morning. I entered my card information that I had used prior to this issue and it was accepted. Looks like whatever problem they had on their end was fixed. They probably made a bit of extra money off addicts (like me) who bought more than they needed to in Crysta to be able to play over the weekend.

I will have you know that I can quit any time I want! [Ron Howard's voice] "He couldn't."
Sooo, my payment ran out last night, and for some reason I can't reactivate?
If I just try to reactivate and pay by credit card (direct, no click'n buy), I get error 401.
If I try to update my payment info first, it gives me error 601.
I did double-check that my info is correct, and also that I have money on my card.
Anybody know exactly what these errors are for?
I can't contact SE until tomorrow and this is really annoying D:
