Congratulations, Miguel Cabrera of the Detroit Tigers for winning the batting Triple Crown!
It's been so long since this happened that not many people born in the last 30 years know what this is. The "Triple Crown" is a title given by a person, either a Pitcher or Batter, who takes the overall season lead for their league in:
Batting: HR, RBI, AVG
Pitching: ERA, W, K
The last time anyone has won the batting TC was in 1967 by Carl Yastrzemski. This puts Cabrera on the list with legends such as Ty Cobb, Lou Gehrig, Ted Williams, and Mickey Mantle.

Quite impressive considering the times.
What will be even more impressive is that fact that he might not even with MVP

Thats pretty awesome. I'm not a tigers fan and being a lowly mets fan, used to hate what he did to us on the marlins. I was pullin for him to win the TC the past month tho. Great accomplishment for a great player :D

I think he should win MVP, but Mike Trout really has made a strong case to take it over Cabrera.

The problem with Miggy winning MVP is that even if you concede he's had a superior offensive year (and he has, but the gap is smaller than you'd think, since Trout had one less month of games), the other aspects of Trout's game are leaps and bounds better. Trout's speed is incredible, and he plays excellent defense at a much more valuable position.
You can't really go wrong giving it to either, but it really ought to be Trout.

I'm obviously a Detroit fan but I have to say, Trout is a great contender for MVP. Cabrera had a great offensive season but Trout being a rookie out shined lots of veterans in overall abilities.
The MLB has some crazy *** formula on how they award points for MVP. Offensive and Defensive stats taken into consideration. I'm not even going to pretend to know it but think of it like [Points = (Singles/.1 + Doubles/.1 + Triples/.05) - (strike outs + pop outs + failed stolen bases + errors) ] .... etc.
The screwed up thing is that it's some hidden unofficial part of the equation that your team not going to the playoffs kicks you in the balls a bit for MVP race.
No clue who they will pick obviously but seeing a rookie win league MVP is as awesome as a TC winner taking home the MVP. I'm sure people will be upset/butthurt no matter who gets picked.

Wait, what? MVP is voted on by sportswriters. There's no math to it.

Look at it objectively. Trout's offense was close using old style metrics (and better using sabermetric stats!). His speed is an actual factor and he plays better defense at a harder position. He also did this as a rookie, starting a month late into the season. The Angels' record with Trout is better than the Tigers' record with Cabrera.
I'm not saying Cabrera getting it would be a travesty, but Trout ought to win it. He had a better year, and contributed more to his team's success (and the Angels have a better record than the Tigers, they just play in a harder division).

You'd think it'd be bigger among the MMO set, actually. Hilarious numbers of statistics, all easily broken down and analyzed, and the game itself is long dull periods of "grinding it out" punctuated by short bursts of something happening.

Love what Miggy did this year, (even though I picked Pujols first overall for my fantasy team -.-) and I totally think that he should win the MVP.

This city doesn't have much to be proud of, so when something like this happens people get pretty excited over here. It is definitely going to be an interesting postseason.

I'd like to be encouraging here. You guys were great to start the year, McCutcheon is incredible and going to get better, etc... but yeah. Hard to be excited about the Pirates. My condolences.

I am a Tigers fan and Cabrera had an amazing year and it would be the best thing for baseball to have a Triple Crown winner win the MVP however Trout is more than worthy to walk away with the MVP and it would not bother me one bit.
WAR(Wins above replacement) is the most accurate way to determine a players value.
Trout is one of the best all around players in history when you figure in ALL categories
Trout 10.7 Cabrera 6.9
Bonds 11.6* - 2001 and 2002 - *Steroids
Ripken 11.3 - 1991
Morgan 10.8 - 1975
Yastrzemski 12.0 - 1967 - Last Triple Crown winner
Mays 10.2 - 1962 and 1963 10.7 - 1964 10.9 - 1965
