I've got a dual monitor set up with the HD TV using the HDMI port and cable from pc to graphic card.

But when I set up the games to play in full screen it only plays it in full screen on the primary monitor.

Does anyone know how to set it so the games play in full screen on the secondary monitor only?

Not that I'm aware of. The directX handling of full screen operations is still pretty sketchy despite all the advances to OS through the years.

There may be some registry hack somewhere but I'm far from sure that it's possible. As I see it, you have two options. One is play the game in windowed mode, if it's xi i think there's a borderless windowed option in windower. The second is that its not terribly difficult to switch primary monitors using CCC, and I can't imagine it'd be difficult on nVidia. It's a couple extra steps each time you want to play your game, but meh.

Probably it should work the same way a game supports multimonitor but since we are talking about ffxi, the only way is, probably, to change your main monitor before playing unless the drivers have their own option.

Actually there's a third option, but it probably won't work. I use a program called displayfusion. The (one time) paid-for version allows for duplicating start menus across all monitors. You could set up your primary to be your TV and leave it there, duplicate the startmenu to your secondary, and then drag all your work/desktop icons/etc over to your monitor. Windows does a decent job of remembering icons and windows and keeping them in the correct monitor. However, other things default back to primary.

For instance, if you have a login screen when you boot up, it defaults (and I don't know if you can change it) to primary, so you'd have to sign in using your TV. If you rarely shut your computer down, it might not be an issue.

Fourth option (maybe): instead of extending, duplicate your monitor, but set your tv to primary. I think this might actually work, but you lose independent functionality.

EDIT: duplicating works, and you don't need to switch primary monitors. Full screen is duplicated as well (it's been so long i've forgot that)

Anything preventing you from making the secondary monitor the primary for your purposes?

http://forums.windower.net/files/file/41-wincontrol/

I believe this works for full screen no border.

I always just set up my secondary monitor (the TV) as my primary, then just make sure the executable opens up on the second monitor, and run it from there :| annoying as hell but it gets the job done.

With the size of HDMI televisions, you could probably get away with the game being windowed, and the window to fit the screen, without loosing too much.

Though why you'd want to play XI on an HDMI, is beyond me.

There's a command console command (window_toggleframe) you can type in that will give a border to the FFXI instance and then you can move the window where you want and then type it again and it'll take it away. It's kinda finicky though... Was always difficult for me to get it in the right place. I've not tried that wincontrol thing but that sounds better anyhow.

Code
wincontrol move 1281 0

wait 5

fullscreen

wait 1

toggleframe

wait 1

fullscreen

This is what I came up with when I wanted to do it, I'm not sure if there is a better way though. :\ I just made a 2nd folder for Windower and used that for when I wanted to play on the 2nd monitor and put the code above in my init.txt file.

If someone knows a more effective and easier way I'd like to hear it, but for now that's what worked for me after some trial and error.

it should be possible with the cards driver package (which I typically don't like installing, I prefer just the base driver in most cases) but since I have lately I'll give it a whirl tomorrow and see what I come up with, as I have access to both types.

I do remember that when I was dual screening it up XI crashes if you unplug or plugin a 2nd screen when it's running, directx is super finicky, and XI relies on it heavily.

but any solution via the controls should be able to be applied to other programs/games as well.

That's pretty cool. I use to play on both screens when I first started dualing but it gives me a headache during intense events and I have a habit of not knowing which instance is active and ending up hitting the wrong stuff. ^^; I may try it again at some point since it wouldn't be such a pain in the *** and I have a completely different pc and monitors so it's worth a try.

I'm told vmware can support directx in emulated windows, might be worth a try if you want multiple instances on 1 machine with different controls (I'm going to assume VMware can bind USB devices to the VM like VirtualBox can, I tried getting XI to work on XP in virtualbox, didn't work so well... XI is very directx heavy).
