BG lists a number of exceptions where the displayed haste on an item is different from it's actual calculated/stored value - i.e:

  • Walahra Turban gives 50/1024(4.8828125%) haste, which is a little less than the actual listed value(5%) on the item description.

  • Blitz Ring gives 11/1024(1.07..%) haste, which is slightly higher than the actual listed value of (1%) on the item description.

  • Tiercel Necklace gives 11/1024 haste(same as Blitz Ring)[2].

  • Speed Belt gives 61/1024(5.95..%) haste, slightly lower than the listed value of 6%.

  • Ace's Helm = 40/1024(3.90625% haste).

  • Rune Chopper = 90/1024(8.78..% haste)

  • Homam Manopolas, Homam Gambieras, Dusk Ledelsens +1, and Dusk Gloves = 30/1024(2.92..% haste).

My question is, are there more items than this list? Is there a central/all encompassing list? I notice that thread/src ends in 2010. suggestions to reliably calculate this myself are also welcome :D

For example, here's some of my PLD haste gear I'm trying to find the actual haste value for:
  • AF3+2 hands (4%) = ?/1024

  • AF3+2 legs (4%) = ?/1024

  • AF3+2 feet (4%) = ?/1024

  • Goading belt (5%) = ?/1024

  • Phasmida belt (6%) = ?/1024

  • Meki set (Head+body; 8%) = ?/1024

  • Zelus tiara (8%) = ?/1024

  • Porthos Byrnie (5%) = ?/1024

I'd love to fill in some of those blanks if anyone knows the ?/1024 values.

It's ubiquitous. Those entries are meant to be examples of the underlying discrepancy - fractions of 1024 very rarely translate perfectly into integer values (actually off the top of my head only 256/1024, 512/1024, and 768/1024 translate to whole percentage values). Another example would be the haste spell, which is 150/1024.

all of the newer gear i tested last year was all slightly over the whole percent shown on the gear. The gear tested was all the DRK and NIN AF3 (migawari / dread spikes recast)

That's what I suspected just from the nature of dividing by 1024, so I guess ultimately my question becomes - how can I find out the real value of any given piece of equipment?

Sub SCH, put on your TP set, and cast Advancing March with March+1 (like AF3+2 hands). If you have uncapped Haste (<256), you will have a maximum of 335/1024 Haste (255+64+16), and if you have capped Haste (=256), you will have 336/1024 Haste.

Klimaform (180 second base recast) will have a 2:01 recast if you have uncapped Haste or a 2:00 recast if you have capped gear Haste.

As for how you can determine the exact value of gear, this may help:

I'm always floored by the math in FFXI, and the reverse engineering methods used to figure it out. Pretty damn impressive.

Ba-dum-tss *drums* :D

Thanks for links/feedback thus far all. I have been using 26% haste for a long time to be safe in hitting cap, but I'm starting to wonder if maybe I only need 25, or even 24% (letting the hidden X/1024 fractions add up for the remaining 1% haste). I'm on a pursuit to try and understand which of my haste pieces equal exactly what.

I updated the OP with some examples of the gear i'm trying to find haste values for.

PS - as mentioned above, the 26% setup was AF3+2 hands/legs/feet, phasmida belt, and meki set. I'm going to update the OP with

My sch is just level 1 and that seems like a lot of time just to test the haste, but I do like the idea - are there other alternatives to the two you mentioned?

Well, my sch is 99 now, so maybe I can start testing this finally.
