Combat system looks boring and unremarkable. If I wanted to button mash with one character, I would just play dynasty warriors. I still haven't seen anything from this game that looks remotely good.

Any word on how this costume is acquired? Please tell me it is not a Gamestop preorder bonus.

They said they want to promote at the same time FFXIV Arrr, Thunder Returns and FFX revival(in fact Lightning will also have a Yuna summoner dress).

Apparently Lightning may actually be in FFXIV:ARR as part of a questline. That makes sense right?

Yoshida said in an interview that he swears it will make sense cause it will have a well thought reason.
...but probably won't and will be just as lame as it sounds.

More reason I'm still apprehensive about ARR despite how good it looks. In desperation, the devolved into pure fan-service. Let's hope I'm wrong.
Then again, how many Fans could there have been for FFXIII?

Probably many more than you think. They aren't pumping out these games for their own pleasure, they're doing it cause its making them money.
Edit: While that may not make them "fans" I guess. Im sure there is still a bunch out there.

He said it'll make sense but he didn't say it would be good. All it takes is some transdimensional thingamajig (like Cloud in Final Fantasy Tactics being brought to Ivalice through a zodiac stone during his coma) and bingo, instant Lightning Farron.
Just give me the inevitable Sephiroth/Kefka raid already. If we're gonna milk cows, milk the ones people give a *** about.
Shantotto! Shantotto! I'd be pleased if she ended up in FFXIV somehow.

The fan service is getting a bit much, I think its actually hurting 14 to build its own identity.

ACTUALLY! If you read the Lore for the Stardust rod, which I'm copy/paste'ing over from the FFXIV main site...
Quote: All in the Order of Nald’thal know well the legend of Shatotto, a mighty thaumaturge from the fifth of Astral Eras. Her creation of destructive and catastrophic spells evoked as much fear as it did respect, prompting ignorant souls to call her unsavory names—Death’s Handmaiden, the Black Witch, and the She-Devil among them. She was also possessed of an otherworldly talent for crafting thaumaturgical staves. Among her creations, the Stardust Rods are by far the most powerful and coveted, believed as they are to be fashioned from the celestial remnants of a star Shatotto herself brought down to Hydaelyn and clove asunder.
source
And if they did it when Lightning was in her Crystal Sleep either when...
A) Right at the end of FFXIII, but that would seem too brief to me.
B) End of FFXIII-2 and before waking up for Lightning Returns FFXIII
Would make "sense". As much sense as Cloud being in tactics during his coma.

They should go ahead and rename it to Final Fantasy Megamix Online.
Also add in Rad Racer so we can have things like this:

Quote: During E3 we broke the news about the fact that the development team of Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII saw fit to enlarge the protagonist’s breasts for the third chapter of the saga. Obviously that caused quite a stir, and today during the Premium Event held in Tokyo the devs went quite a lot beyond that, giving us even more information (maybe even too much information) during the Q&A session, as reported by Famitsu.
If you’re offended by the Lightning’s sexualization, I suggest you don’t read further, because your head could explode.
Q: Is it true you said you wanted Lightning-san’s size from a C cup to a D cup?
Nobuhiro Goto (Character Modeling Designer): Toriyama-san said “I want it bigger” so…
Motomu Toriyama (Director): [What a] cop-out! (laughs)
Goto: Yes, it was enlarged.
Q: Was it a C cup until now? Does it even jiggle this time?
Goto: Yes!
Toriyama: it’s determined by clothing, like the so-called corrective underwear. (laughs)
Masaru Suzuki (Designer): There’s an unreleased costume that exposes the l’Cie scar on her chest. Please think [carefully], is there any other information that should be disclosed? (laughs)
Q: So there were costumes that were rejected?
Goto: I think there are a few designs that were rejected.
Suzuki: If reproducing the outfit proves to be difficult, then I’ll consult with the artwork designer as much as possible, but if the costume design slows down to a crawl, it gets scrapped.
Dengeki Online‘s report of the Q&A provides further details:
Q: I heard that the chest Jiggles?
Goto: Yes, her chest jiggles. Since everyone can decide what costume she’ll wear, you can make sure it does (laughs). By the way, Since Lightning swings her arm when you change her weapon in the menu screen, that’s a recommended action for sure-fire jiggling! To see it even better it could be useful to equip a small shield. Look forward to it!

Other FFXI heroines didn't need larger cup sizes to make them more appealing. That had that..you know.. what's it called..?
OH RIGHT. PERSONALITY.
/facepalm ;(
Inb4 Tifa and Lulu, they at least had SOME personality. Lulu had little voodoo dolls she controlled too. Win.

Square Enix Teases More of "Final Fantasy XIII" Lightning Saga
"A storm gathers" with a reveal planned for September 1 at Shibuya event
Joseph Luster
August 22, 2012 11:15am CDT
Square Enix is teasing the next step for the story of Final Fantasy XIII's Lightning, which came to an end with May's Final Fantasy XIII-2 add-on, "Lightning Story: Requiem of the Goddess." Despite the DLC's conclusiveness, a new teaser site promises a reveal of "the new direction for the saga of key character, Lightning."
As the site says, key members of the FFXIII development team—including the Producer, Director, and Art Director—are preparing a presentation that's set to take place at a Final Fantasy 25th anniversary Gallery event in Shibuya, which will be held from August 31 through September 2.
The FFXIII presentation itself is going down on September 1, so we'll have to wait until then to find out what Square Enix has in store. Are you ready for more of the Lightning Saga?

The latest issue of the Japanese edition of Shonen Jump has treated its readers to a shot of the new look for Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII's titular character.
A trailer is promised for the 2013 edition of the magazine's annual Jump Festa event.
