FFXIII: Lightning Returns
By Leoheart 2014-02-18 09:33:42
Well I beat the game, at a surprising 40 hours total, longest final fantasy I've gone through start to finish since the ps1 series, although I think 10 might have clocked higher.
As for the final boss: I only truly learnt how to use the schemata system during his last form trying to stagger it, the entire time I've just been dumping the atb down and moving to the next one lol
Anyway after a few times beating it, I've given up trying to farm the Double Deity weapon since it's supposed to have a higher drop rate in hard mode.

After playing the demo a few times, I have to say my opinion of the game has gone from completely against to cautiously optimistic. The schemata system really does seem a lot like the dress spheres from X-2, which I loved. The inability to control the positioning of your characters was something I disliked about XIII, although from the demo it doesn't seem like it has much of an effect on combat in LR. The 4-command-per-schemata limit may seem too restricting to some people, but to me it just means I'll have to put some thought into what schemata I want to use and with what abilities, as opposed to "throw on my strongest stuff and mash the attack button."

You fight the final boss on the last day, I'll spoiler why I said it like that if you were interested >.> If you've done enough quests and yggsdrasil is in full bloom then the 13th day isn't the last day, but the 14th day is.

"throw on my strongest stuff and mash the attack button." Does NOT work for boss fights. At all. Or for the bigger enemies. *** Chocobo/Earth Eaters.
And Aeronite is a nightmare. Accidentally ran into one during Chapter 4. Dear Lord, that was and extremely short fight. :<

Well i beat the game, normal mode first play through, if you havn't beat it don't look below as im gonna talk about the ending/secret ending,
They kinda left it "open" to another sequel at the end again didnt they? after Light gets off the train saying "we'll meet again" kinda makes me think they might do something more with the XIII storyline. Even though they said this was supposed to be the end, SE not the type to leave the Eidolins and moogles sealed off in another dimension so i wouldn't be suprised if they make a movie or something.
ALSO, i beat all the last ones in final dungeon i can just flag quest at the old guy and complete asap next time i see him right?
By Leoheart 2014-02-20 22:05:20
Yup, you can complete the last ones quest now.
As for the ending:
I might be wrong, but when Lightning defeats Bhunivelze and seals them away with Caius and Yeul I believe becomes the new unseen realm which is where the Eidolons went, like when lightning had all the Eidolons with her in Valhalla.
I could be way off, but Caius and the other Yeuls may have pretty much become the new Etro to keep the Chaos in check.

Welp, finished the story of this..debatable saga. For the most part it was really uninteresting and Lumina is really the only thing worth it in this chapter, as she's an awesome character. Lightning-Batman and RobotHope were really a very bad duo for a main cast..
As for spoilers: Most of the characters lost that little depht they had in the previous two games, like Sazh is suddenly demented and Fang is emotionless(I get it she's the "cool" type, but that was taken too far), and Vanille has turned imbecile too.
Noel was interesting until after the fight he goes "ah *** this, I guess you're right and I'm wrong", wtf.
Snow had the best emotional moment, though I didn't particularly appreciate that he turned normal again, but I understand it was needed for the happy ending.
As for the godslaying thing I guess it was to be expected, so can't complain too much but...eh.
I know a lot of people criticize the ending, but I believe that's actually the setting stone for FFXV since as we know that one is placed in modern times in a "fantasy reality" as defined by Nomura, in the same universe as XIII. So, yeah, while it does look like Earth, it could be Fantasy-Earth where FFXV takes place. Or maybe not and the ending is just as silly as it looks. We can Hope.

And Snows biggest issue is his counters, so avoid triggering them.

Did the person looking for the RDM hat ever find it? I just found it myself.
After becoming a bandit in the dunes, you get access to the outfitter there who sells it!

I beat him last night, fun fight but it was a ***. I'm the type where I don't like to drag out fights, but because of his counters you kind of have to slow down and watch out for them xD

Anyone else having a hard time finding the @LRFF13 npcs for the Helter Skelter reward? I would like to find them or at least the one that gives the Tonberry accessory before it gets removed.

Quote: The story is based on the Fabula Nova Crystallis mythology, but has no direct relation to the other games in this series as it features a unique world, visual design and different characters.

But if they're not connected then that means that no god from XIII is connected to XV, meaning that one didn't create the world in XV.

woundering does this game mention anything about lightning going to the world in XIV? I am just curious if that event in XIV had any story relations to the full XIII trilogy

There's a little conversation about eorzea when lightning gets the miqote garb, and you can get the Grand company lieutenant swords from Quests with shields, but that's it.

After becoming a bandit in the dunes, you get access to the outfitter there who sells it! I did, but thank you.
I find it weird they would put the Chapeau in the Dunes when they give you the Garb all the way back on the second day. I mean, I guess you could always go to the Dunes on day 2 as well but I thought it was the hardest area, which makes it seem kinda out of place to me.

I am just curious if that event in XIV had any story relations to the full XIII trilogy It is mentioned, Hope says that Miqo'te are a race from a legendary dimension of Eorzea or some such, and Lightning makes a comment about wondering if such a place is real and that she wouldn't mind going there someday. At least, thats what I recall of it, but in either case, it is mentioned.

Square Enix Teases More of "Final Fantasy XIII" Lightning Saga
"A storm gathers" with a reveal planned for September 1 at Shibuya event
Joseph Luster
August 22, 2012 11:15am CDT
Square Enix is teasing the next step for the story of Final Fantasy XIII's Lightning, which came to an end with May's Final Fantasy XIII-2 add-on, "Lightning Story: Requiem of the Goddess." Despite the DLC's conclusiveness, a new teaser site promises a reveal of "the new direction for the saga of key character, Lightning."
As the site says, key members of the FFXIII development team—including the Producer, Director, and Art Director—are preparing a presentation that's set to take place at a Final Fantasy 25th anniversary Gallery event in Shibuya, which will be held from August 31 through September 2.
The FFXIII presentation itself is going down on September 1, so we'll have to wait until then to find out what Square Enix has in store. Are you ready for more of the Lightning Saga?

The latest issue of the Japanese edition of Shonen Jump has treated its readers to a shot of the new look for Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII's titular character.
A trailer is promised for the 2013 edition of the magazine's annual Jump Festa event.
