Finally got this thing to work and.....I'm completely lost. Seems similar to Minecraft but with more of an adventuring aspect.

Anyone care to thoroughly explain how this game works? xD

Forgive me if there's already a thread, tried searching but its down atm.

I've played it awhile back.

As you dig, the blocks pop out and you can gather them until you run out of room.

You can use these blocks to build, or craft.

Like, if you chop down a tree it gives you wood. You can use this wood to make walls, backwalls, tables, chairs, weapons, etc. Or if you dig up sand you can make glass, for vials so you can have containers for potions.

It really is just a survival game until you become to the point where you can dominate everything. That was back then of course, I know they have updated the game and possibly added worlds now so there might be some really powerful monsters even with the best gear, idk!

There are a few big monsters you can take on after you are strong enough, they drop really good materials for weapons and stuff.

There is a wiki :x you'll probably want to bookmark that

im pretty sure a few of the hardmode bosses are impossible to solo without the gear they drop synth mats for lol you have to get on multiplayer servers to do it or inventory edit for the items to kill them

unless you're this guy lol

I've put so much time into this game it scares me...

anyway, I'll tell you now there is much more you can do in the game than it makes obvious. People's biggest problem with the game is they tend to get bored and give up... but many of those people tend to just dig holes and build things, simply put they play it like its minecraft and its not. like you said it's much more on the adventuring aspect... there are bosses that lead into more bosses, there is a enormous dungeon filled with chests of stuff and guarded by a boss... by doing different things you can unlock NPCs to move into your house or village and they all have their own functions.

basically in the start you will just wanna start making a decent house and some armor. this part is pretty much done the same as minecraft, chop down trees, dig up dirt, etc. for general info on... anything, check here .

um... trying to think of what to really say, there is a lot to the game so i could be here for a while if i really go into depth XD. the basic flow is this: make house and armor out of wood or copper or other basic materials (see wiki for what officially makes a "house", guide npc also helps out a lot).-- start fighting monsters and exploring either the upperworld or dig... and dig... and keep on digging, and find lots of random materials and magic items etc etc. (this is really the major thing of the game, there are a lot of big mobs underground and biomes like the underworld [stay away from there till later on] and the underground jungle).-- when you get stronger you can do the first boss fight, eye of cthulu, which will either show up at random or you can spawn him yourself (see wiki).

--after getting better gear both from cthulu and other stuff you can take on eater of worlds, he and the eye will together drop the items needed for shadow gear (good gear).-- after that the dungeon is a good place to go, to get in you gotta take down a 1-time boss and then explore the crap out of a dungeon... and it can be challenging.-- afterwords the underworld is a good target for hunting down stuff--

AND THEN-- once you've pretty much hit the limit of all this, you can take on the keeper of the underworld (or whatever it is) which is... very difficult, or it can be. if you beat him the entire game does a 180 and goes into "hard mode" (note: NOT hardcore mode). everything gets insanely powerful, all new mobs appear and new biomes. theres a new set up 3 extremely powerful bosses... basically the game will suddenly double in size.

of course you dont have to do any of that in a specific order like i listed. and amidst all of that you will unlock and find new items to create houses or structures with, and npcs to get new things from. like the mechanic that lets you make wire systems to control... mostly anything, and pump water/lava from A to B (i filled my entire world with lava :D). also there are invasion style boss fights, where undead/goblins/snowmen will attack your position in huge waves.

anyway... if you wanna know more specific stuff lemme know, this game is like crack to me XD and it is very big and very overwhelming, so be warned when trying to approach it.

a unicorn broke into my house once... there were no survivors x.x

EDIT: oh yea speaking of that, at the end of the game the map goes into kinda a conflict between hallow (light) and... crap whats it called... well the dark thing. you can choose, by using items and such, to spread one or the other to the entire map and make it all a happy loving unicorn land (the unicorns dont really love you... they will kill you dead) or a land filled with... really nasty bug crap. it makes it interesting

I spent so many hours on that game, if I pick it back up it probably will seem brand new since it's been so long.

I think I got the basics down enough, I'd be down for trying multiplayer.

Is there a way to repair tools/weapons?

they don't break or weaken. but when you make a tool or weapon they may have different stats (some good some bad)

EDIT: and those "different stats" can be "reforged" later when you get the goblin npc. (its like augment in XI, you pay gold and it gets new bonus stats. you can repeat if you dont like what you get... but you can only get goblin npc after goblin invasion, which is a ways in)

LOLOL Why didnt I think of that?

Delving deep underground now. I'm being anal busting out the dirt walls and putting up stone walls in my house, and wood walls in my tunnels.

Finding new craft recipes is fun~
Need more copper/iron ores for armor and shiz~!

Willing to try multiplayer if anyone has a server or knows a good one.

Liked this game a ton, got 100~ hours out of it for $10 and would recommend to anyone. The final bosses are so much fun and require some diverse strategies in order to defeat, unfortunately however I wasn't able to get much use out of the weapons and armors that I crafted with the drops since there's not much to do after beating them. :c

One aspect I don't like about the game though... Corruption. It'll make more sense once you get to Hard Mode, but you'll learn to hate it and whoever thought it was a good idea.

In order to play multiplayer, it runs off of your own PC, like uh... I think Starcraft did. It's purely P2P, no external servers required.
Just need to find out your IP, make it so your firewall doesn't block Terraria, and have people join up to you. They join in your world, so if its someone new, you might want to make a new world if you're already in Rainbowland.

Isn't that how every game turns out after playing it so often xD

So I have to host a server myself? I'm trying to join servers I find online and it says my version isnt the same as the server version.

since you had a pirated version you may have not had a lot of stuff in your game as well. newest version adds a lot of stuff to worlds upon creation that older doesn't (like traps and such)
