Ok, so I have a female kitten that is now 7 months old and she just got spayed 6 days ago. The day I took her home she was very loopy and peed twice in random places in the apartment, but I really didn't think anything of it cause she was drugged big time. The next day she used the litter box normally for both 1 and 2 so I thought all was well.
So last night I'm heading in my room to go to bed and something doesn't smell right. I look over and there's pee on the floor again. 6 days after she got spayed and she was using the litter like normal. I cleaned it and hoped it was just an isolated incident. But I got up this morning and was watching TV, I look over and she jumped up on top my clean clothes I had in a basket. I see her pulling at the sides like she does in the litter box after she does something. So, cursing, I walk over and look...and she F*CKING peed on top of my clean clothes...
I would suggest getting lil litter pans. IE those tin pans for cooking that you can throw away. She maybe doing it out of spite, now i know that sounds funny, but they do do those sorta things.
Reminds me of my male cat peter, he was to big for the litter box we had and he bum would stick outside of it lol. But we ended up getting one of those big plastic containers for him, and the female cat and her kittens to use.
If all else fails you can get static pads and put them in the areas that she has used.
I think I heard somewhere that you should have one more litter box than you have cats. So one cat = 2 litter boxes, 2 cats = 3 litter boxes, and so on. Do you have enough litter boxes for her? And of course keep the litter boxes clean.
Is it possible she doesn't like the litter? It's basically the same litter for 3 months, I just scoop the stuff out and add a little new litter every so often when it gets low.
That is possible, we had to use some litter for my cat for a bit that she didn't like and she ended up holding it in then dropping a giant turd in my bed... and of course hid it beneth the covers.
I currently have her on lock down from my room. Door closed at all times and I moved the litter box outside the room into the main living area to continue to monitor the situation. I think 1 more incident and I will call the Vet and also some people suggest I put her up in a small place like the bathroom with her litter and food for a while to get her back into the litter box.
Sounds like a good idea. Generally when they pee outside the box, it means it is painful for them to go in the box, or they are associating peeing with pain. Like Cicada said, could be an infection. I would take her to the vet if it continues.
Had a cat that was doing something similar, he was peeing, or trying to pee in all sorts of places... he had a urinary blockage.
It is totally possible that she doesn't like the litter, I do a full change out every month and half or so, In addition to scooping every week. and I have a pretty small cat (7lbs). She could still just be really pissed, mine was, she did just have surgery.

You really shouldn't put her food and litter tray in the same room. Cats don't particularly like eating in the room where they defecate.
I'm thinking it had to with maybe leftover smell that I couldn't smell after I mopped, etc. If that's the case I'm worried I'll drag some of the smell everywhere and she'll start peeing elsewhere D:.
In my experience, you have to actually clean the box a couple times a month because cats have a much stronger sense of smell and even if you might not smell it, the cat might think it's overpowering.
There is a number of problems, especially since its a female cat.
As some have suggested, she could have a urinary infection, they will go someplace more comfortable to relieve themselves, but this is pretty rare for cats. A more common thing is that she has urinary crystals, which can be helped with a proper diet.
The other possibility is a condition called FIC (feline interstitial cystitis) - this is a condition in which cats have a "sensitive bladder" - there is no infection or crystal formation, but these cats have blood in their urine (not noticeable to the naked eye, seen only under microscope) and have a chronic intermittent recurrence of this problem. It is thought to be stress-related. Recently being spayed could have caused this.
If you've recently changed her litter type - check her feet. If her paws look red or swollen or peeling, this may be an issue, she could be allergic to the type of cat litter that you're using. Also use unscented litter.
Try cleaning her tray more often. She might be getting fussy about it.
If she doesn't show signs of allergy, I'd take her to the vet, soon, to get her checked.
Forgot to add: That she'll return to peed areas if they're not cleaned properly. Clean all affected area with an *enzymatic* cleaner such as Nature's Miracle or Anti-Icky Poo - this will actually break down the urine protein, not just mask the odor, so your cat is less likely to return to that spot
The clothes basket is tall and skinny, about 3 times taller than the litter box so I doubt she's jumping 3 times higher to get into basket cause she's uncomfortable getting into the litter.
Take her to the vet, my female cat had an UTI and she would come into my room in order to get my attention and pee on the floor. Check the color of her urine, if it's tinted anything but yellow something's wrong.
My cat started doing this after moving house, he picked up an infection, the vet said it could have been due to stress, was doing what your cat is.
I would keep an eye on it, if you're giving it dry food wet food could help, though if it gets worse take it to the vet. My kitty had to have an injection and some painkillers we had to put in his food, he was fine soon after.

Well, good thing I gave reasons that didn't just include her being uncomfortable. x:
Edit: Actually, you'd be surprised what cats will do. My cat was bitten by a snake, and managed to get into my room by jumping through the window when half paralyzed from the venom.

Oh I know you did lol. I wasn't saying "it can't be the first thing so your whole post is void." Will be calling the Vet tomorrow about it anyways.
After starting the thread I found that she peed somewhere else as well. In the basket with my dirty clothes lol. Maybe she's peeing in those places because they smell like me and she feels comfortable in them.
Every time we have got a cat fixed our vet has told us to keep them locked in the bathroom for one week after because they wont always get the liter box. *if a few days later they are still having issues after that take them to the vet. In other news
As a cat owner for many years, and having a "kitten" (he isnt a kitten anymore to me, he isnt my tiny baby anymore!) around your cats age, Id deff say something isnt quite right.
Especially if this has never happened before and is a new thing. Its most likely as said before an infection, or she is in a sensitive state and he littler's not exactly to her standards atm or something. Kittys can be so fickle! But yeah deff a good idea to take her in to get checked out and Im glade you are ^^
She probably doesn't like her litter box as it's not clean and smells badly to her. Scooping it out doesn't leave clean fresh litter in the box. I strongly suggest empting the box, washing it out and putting in new litter to see if that takes care of your problem. You should replace all the litter with clean stuff every 2 weeks. Serioursly try it as I see others have suggested it as well..you don't want her to get into a habbit of not using it.
edited to add..the best way to do litter is to fill it up and scoop every day..do not add more. When it gets low empty it out, wash the box out and then fill box with new litter.

Good luck. :)
My cat would pee in corners and on the white (x.x) carpet, and she ended up having kidney stones :X
So might be true that she's trying to show you something
After major abdominal surgery the cat should have been isolated and locked into a small area (usually a bathroom) and monitored so that it will not have a lot of activity (do not want it jumping up and down off of counters and other furniture). Were you given pain meds and an antibiotic? IF not you could go back and ask for those. Usually the vet will want to see the cat back in about 10 days for a recheck after surgery, and always want it to come back before then if anything is abnormal. That is all I can think of at the momement, but I can give you more info if needed later, need to ask the wife as she is a vet and I was just a technician.
