[dev1128] Magic Adjustments

The following spell effects will be raised:

  • Protect / Protectra / Protect II / Protectra II / Protect III / Protectra III / Protect IV / Protectra IV / Protect V / Protectra V / Knight's Minne / Knight's Minne II / Knight's Minne III / Knight's Minne IV / Knight's Minne V


In addition, the following effects will also be increased:

  • The bonus defense enhancement granted by Protectra V.

  • The Protecra V enhancement attribute of Cleric's Duckbills +2.

  • The enchantment attribute of Protect Ring and Protect Earring.

  • The Fields of Valor and Grounds of Valor field support effect White Magic: Protect.


Resistances to the following spells will be changed:

  • Foe Requiem / Foe Requiem II / Foe Requiem III / Foe Requiem IV / Foe Requiem V / Foe Requiem VI / Foe Requiem VII

  • The maximum number of upgrades for the attribute merit point category will be raised from twelve to twenty-four.

[dev1130] Battle-related Adjustments

  • The interval between the conclusion of battle and the next possible time an attack command can be carried out will be adjusted.

  • The interval between the time a ranged attack finishes and the next possible time a new command can be carried out will be reduced.

  • The guard and parry skills will be adjusted so that they may level up even if the skills do not activate when players are attacked.

Will this be enough to make protect actually relevant and worth having Protectra V at more than 1 merit?

They say category and don't mention individual attributes so I'd guess it will only let you go 12 + 12

Whoa, the last one is pretty crazy. No more pulling teeth to get guard/parrying up.

Also curious if the attribute merit cap will remain 12 or if they'll let you cap a single one all the way up to 24.

Not likely. I can't see it taking priority over maximum mitigation of magic damage. Though if anything, it might make supertanking possible again with stacked Minne and give some attention to Cannonball for BLUs.

Well max shellra obviously doesn't change, but maybe can take merits out of Devotion and lolMartyr.

I suppose with the nature of abyssea and temp item spams, MP management isn't an issue that would need any more than 1 merit in Devotion. So I could possibly see white mages go:

5/5 shellra, 4/5 Protectra 1/5 devotion, and go away Martyr, nobody likes you.

The first thing to buffing defensive buffs is a giant waste of time. Kind of like the nin "merit adjustments", yay futae.

This time could've been better spent on actually adjusting jobs, editing enfeeble resists, buffing worthless jobs(ninja, redmage), editing the enmity system to not be aids, etc.

Aside from being a stupid analogy, job adjustments have already been called to be done later on, same for enfeebles. And why not adjust other stuff till those are ready?

My guess is still a cap of 12 points per stat, but an overall cap of 24 points for the category. Helllloooo 12 DEX baybay.

sadly i can't even manage to test the skill-up rates on the test server. they "fixed" the skills with what job you change to to automatically cap when you zone... >.> main reason i spent 3-4 hours installing/updating it.. wanted to know how much of my post update time i'm going to spend skilling up guard/parry. looks like ill just have to wait to find out D:

Well evasion skill has always worked that way. You never had to actually evade anything to get a skillup. At least its consistant now even it does not make sense.

I think the change to guard parry is stupid as hell. yup, your guard skill is gonna go up when you don't actually guard. >_<
