So I have two hard drives, C: Drive is a 40GB SSD That I just put my OS on and D: is a TB with everything else on it. I just reformated not even a month ago and I install everything to the D: Drive but some how it says I have ~200MB free on my C: Drive and I can't find where all this space is being taken up from any advice?

Windows 7 after all the updates takes up tons of space, and any applications you may have installed do total up to quite a bit.
You could right click on each of the primary folders and see how much each one takes.

My advice is buy a 120 or 240 gig SSD.

Btw when a ssd is full or almost full, he lost lots of speed.

60gig is too small , but 40?

my usb key is 32gig lol

Do you have torrents that go directly to that drive? If you start a 2GB file, before you've even downloaded the 2GB it'll still take up the space, like a place holder.

Nah all my stuff goes to D drive, looks like Windows folder is 19GB and everything else is not even a GB so there should be 15GB+ free :/ I will look into a 240 SSD for sure

Search the drive and sort everything by size. It shouldn't take very long to figure out where the space is going.

I had this issue before. I found out that I had "Shadow Images" left over from ***like windows update and whatnot. They're like hidden files you can't really see unless you get a specific piece of software to clean them out.

I can't remember what problem I got a long time ago but I used it to delete all the shadow images off my HD and ended up with close to 6 gigs of space returned.

It's just a suggestion but you might try to go that route.

Would I be losing a lot of speed if I reformated and installed everything to my TB and just took out my 40GB SSD?

Hmm, i guess that question depends on whether or not you noticed a speed difference when you first installed your SSD.

I would say yes. I also recommend/suggest a bigger SSD. At least 120 GIGs.

I'm not too familiar with current pricing on these. I got my 120 GIG on sale back when 120 was common for top capacity.

I know these drives can be somewhat expensive. In my personal opinion, 240 seems overkill. You simply want your SSD to have OS and some programs here and there.

There's really no reason to not jump from 120 to 240 at today's prices. 120 = ~$115, 240 = ~$190. If you got the money to spend, might as well make the jump.

Especially 'cause SSD's are the single most powerful upgrade right now. If you're going to do it, may as well go all the way, ya?

I realized how out of times I was, while still 350+, they are a fraction of what I expected them to be (500-800)

Honestly you should modify the registry to change the drive for the "Program Files" folder be the larger drive. Also make sure the swap file is on the larger drive. Not only your SSD will last much longer, the DISK performance of the PC will be improved greatly. You don't need a 120GB SSD unless you don't do what I said.

It might sound stupid, but it's the constant writes from the OS to the swap file which ruin the SSD faster than it's supposed to.

I have a 2 HDD RAID array as drive D and that was the only thing that made it possible to play FFXIV on my 4 years old PC without lag.

something like windirstat can give you a visual idea of what is taking up space

Just to wrap this up, the OP had hybernation and page file on the SSD drive and that's what was taking up his space.
