VanaFest was the deciding factor if I was going to continue to have any interest in the game any longer. If they had failed to deliver some big news I would have stopped playing completely.
I'm sure others feel the same as well, if they just told us the same information we already know then that wasn't going to be enough.

Yeah, there was really no way for them to win completely unless they'd also said something about adding more content throughout 2012 aside from revamps to old content and other things that no one cares about.

Give me a job that's concept is similiar to DNC where their means of usefuless is based on their TP (where they wasn't a Good DD/Healer compared to their counterparts) then i'd be a lil more excited.
OF course it's not enough info to go on to decide if it's "horrible" or not.
Idk depending how the development of pso2 is a year from now anything they do on ffxi might not be enough for me to come back...atleast fully.
I mean even in the Open Beta there's still quite a bit to do :)

[Goin off topic] I think the reason why I feel that way is partially because most of the new stuff that been out lately (Voidwatch being the main example) if you didn't have X job or X weapon then GTFO...
Of course that's just my experience with it on phoenix unsure if same on other servers but sure it's about the same....
Hell if I didn't decide to level BRD earlier on I wouldn't even have done VW at all since my favorite job is DNC and isn't needed there...
Game sort of started feeling like a chore...
Which why I fell back into PS since it reminded me that in that game...unless you was just an elitist...it didn't matter if someone didn't have the best stuff or not....didn't even matter what class you was on..... :) Just all time fun :)

Totally playing this job. It reminds me of the Belmonts from Castlevania, and I loved that game. Not to mention, I've been wanting to play a tank-job that isn't Ninja or Paladin.

Any job that isn't WAR, DRK, or MNK will have a hard time getting a DD slot for example, when jobs such as DRG, BLU, and the like are fine.

After reading through the first few pages....
I have studied fencing, stage fencing, and medieval style combat in several forms. Including with a greatsword.
You can fence with greatswords, all the seven basic positions are used. 3rd is a ***, and 6th and 7th are best done as an active sweeping from your center out move.
Yes, parrying and ripostes are used.
Also yes, sometimes you will use it one handed, usually on a return or fast repositioning, occasionally for a fancy thrust*, never for a block.
Assorted examples in NY's Met weigh in at 5 - 11 lbs. 2 1/4 - 4 1/ kg.
*full disclosure, I wasn't good enough to make that one look good.

Small update, I'm super surprised that it hasn't been posted yet...
Camate said: Looking at the name “rune fencer” it is actually not a magic based job, as they will be consuming runes to gain special effects. To give a bit more insight into the actual name, I will share a quick Japanese lesson with you all. Red mage, black mage, and other “mage” jobs utilize the kanji
“魔道士” which denotes a mage or wizard-type role. On the other hand, rune fencer in Japanese
is “魔導剣士” which uses a slightly different kanji “魔導.” Both are actually pronounced the same way (madou) but are different in the sense that the latter is used to denote more of a sage-type character. With that said, it might seem to overlap with the image of red mage, but it is in fact completely different.
On another note, for all of you who may still be wondering what the main weapon for rune fencer will be, as many has guessed it will be great sword. However, they will still be able to fully utilize one-hand swords as well.
Attack wise, since they are using great sword, we are planning to have them deal higher damage than paladins. As a tank role though, generating higher enmity than your melee and other damage dealers with attacks alone is quite impossible, so we will be looking into other methods to gain enmity.
In regards to their defensive capabilities, as was stated their specialty is magical defense and elemental resistance, but they will not be able to have all resistances enhanced at once and will have to use runes skillfully to enhance themselves.

Depending on the strength of runes, Rune Knight could potentially be an okay DD if you sub WAR. Resolution isn't an amazing weaponskill without DRK's immense attack bonuses, which Rune Knight very likely won't have, so it'd have to fall back on other conventions, similar to DRG which falls back on immense TP gain. If attack runes are anywhere near good for damage output, we could be looking at a very decent DD job that also tanks like a bouss. Sort of like every other DD, so it'll maybe just be mediocre, but it has my vote.

SE did say at one point they were thinking about adding jobs to relics (like dnc on mandau), and if they are putting Rune Fencer as A+ on Gsword, since it's their "main" weapon and they get no magic stat, it has to be A- or A+ (that of drk or higher). So I wouldn't say its impossible.

If they did decide to add Rune Fencer to at least empyreans, might have to go and make a Caladbolg. But then again new content means new weapons.

If Rune Fencer is on empy, it'll be on all magian Gswords. Might as well make OaT at that point, i'd think.

GS and 1hS? Sign me up... again.
Adding the new jobs on empyreans seem reasonable, but not sure if SE will bother. Oh and

Notice they say "consuming runes". Hopefully like ninja tools and not taking up an ammo slot.

I'd rather runes work like a SCH's stratagems than either ninja tools or take up an ammo slot.

One handing Great swords is really cool, but the question i'm asking myself is "What are they going to do with the Delay mechanics ?" They are going to one hand GS but be ultra slow as well?

Rune Fencer | 魔導剣士
Épéiste runique
Runenfechter |
Quick with a blade as well as an incantation, these versatile duelists employ the power of arcane runes to sway the tide of battle both offensively and defensively.

Rune Fencer Overview
Strengths
Their exceptional magic defense and elemental resistance put them squarely in the tank category, along with paladins and ninjas.
Two broad categories round out their runic arsenal: - Element-based runes add elemental damage to attacks and increase resistance to certain elements.
- Enchantment-based runes increase either the fencer's attacking prowess or their ability to defend.
Rune fencers will possess versatile abilities like one that cuts the duration of the next enhancing magic spell cast on them by half, but in turn amplifies the spell's effect 1.5 times, and another that erects a barrier that reduces magic damage.
Weaknesses
Acquisition Unrevealed
Requires Seekers of Adoulin expansion pack.
