Well at least it's downloading the files, I don't quite understand why it's having to download them all though, unless I *** something up when I extracted the files from the link on BG.
Now it is on the preparing update screen and its been on 0% for about 30 mins! I'M GETTING SOMEWHERE!!! 8D
Finally got my update to work after 3 hours.
I finally got to downloads, I have fiber wire and it's says I have about 3.5 hours remaining. 1464/1533 atm.

finally got to the downloading update bit, then got
some D:patch.txt error. fun. This shits driving me nuts. Fortunately (or unfortunately) a friend knew I liked FF games and got me some points and made me download this game called Crystal Defenders. Basic Castle Strategy type game with FF characters. I was playing at 12:30 am, and when I looked at the clock next it was 5:38 am. x.x
So I'll fiddle with that, and if I get bored some Dragon Age. **Edit** Spoke to soon back to error-1160 maybe thats the reason they dont do Mog Bonanz for NA and EU this year: the moogles in America and the EU just cant connect!
btw, after a few tries, got to Step 2 again. this time "D:Rom/285/8.Dat"

Ah found my issue, I was extracting the files to an old folder for FFXI that's on my computer for some reason when I should have been extracting them to FFXI in my steam folder, "Version update complete."
Anyway seriously anyone still doing this the normal way go to this site and extract the files to your SquareEnix folder and then run the update, it will save a lot of time, I only had 2 files to download.

JURASSIC! They should provide .exe files for those running Windows, at least it would speed up a LOT and would unload the update server too for those on consoles! S.E. FAIL ONCE AGAIN! I completely agree with you they could also cut it up into smaller chunks or something so you dont looses all your progress after 6hours of waiting, stayed up till 4:30am so would have lead start on download said 6hours wole up this morning to find it was stuck at 58% had to cancel then restarted the download get this HELP I AM TRAPPED IN 2006 PLEASE SEND A TIME MACHINE error message wtf SE
I still can't get anywhere with this update... Tried a few times, and only once did I get past the update information section and onto the actual "download" part and it booted me after the first file. I opted not to do this last night specifically to avoid the congestion- it doesn't appear to have done me much good.
I'll attempt it again in an hour or two... Lame.
