well, this is up to a point, where i think its acutally better if they really close the game while it has at least some rests of dignity left, instead of re-re-re-re.....recycling stuff and calling it updates.
they could of course make it free to play and get in the server maintenance costs by selling ingame stuff for real money. then again this "laws of doom" may make that illegal.....
i really wonder if SE, as a company, realizes at all what kind of image that gives away, or if they really blocked out reality that hard.
oh well, guess ill play Tales of Graces F and Ni Nu Koni when it comes out here.
Mad at JPs? Mention Hiroshima. That'll teach them.
it's ***like that, that is going to get us invaded by japanese robots in 2020. we were strong & smart in the 1940's. we are now fat & stupid. temper your tongue, lest we be obliterated.
I'm pretty sure they more or less invented/perfected the video game industry in the first place just to get us all chained to the television/computer, eating Doritos and drinking Mt. Dew, etc. to make us fat and happy and docile.
You don't bomb real people when you're too busy bombing zombies, robots and dragons as a buxom 6' 6" DD brunette.

i wanna play Ni nu Koni! D:
im actually sceptical bout the screenshots of the ingame graphic. i mean, if thats really the end version ingame graphic its totally hot, and ill dump FF11 for that for sure
Welp they better remove gambling table in the nation in the next few updates or this'd be the biggest 'we dun give a ***, but we'll blame the laws' yet~
Maybe this is our punishing for raging on JP's relic game XD

JP's were more upset than NA and EU players if I remember correctly.
Their posts complaining about giving away relic/mythic/empy doubled both NA and EU combined I believe.
Pretty sure it's a Canadian law. Something about lotteries can't be pure luck, some sort of skill so most require like a basic 4 part math question to be answered.
idk about everyone else, but this is letting me know that FFXI is almost time for byebye
I'd be sad for about a week and then try to figure out what to do with my newfound freedom.
~1350 days of playtime and way more of that ISN'T afk time than I'd like to admit.
I'd be like a dude getting out of prison. What the hell would I do with myself?
...that said, I don't think that's the case. The game is still a cash cow. They'll keep milking it until the udder runs dry.
Just don't be like the old man from The Shawshank Redemption... Last thing I want to do is read about how some guy hung himself after experiencing to much of the real world after his MMO server was shut down...
I just spent an ugly year + a month here and there unemployed after college doing nothing but playing XI and filling out job applications, so things are kind of skewed.
An example or a theory isn't proof in writing. Reading may not be hard but I guess the comprehension part is.
I just provided a link describing the issue.
It may be anecdotal but it provides the Canadian statutes requiring games of chance have a skills element to them and explains why you have to do a silly little math test or some such in order to get your free Subway sub or Tim Horton's coffee from a store contest.
But if you require the boring legal version and just can’t accept a layman’s version as true:
But the way it's worded (from what we understand of it w/o looking at the actual documented law) is that it's illegal for companies to let you gamble for monetary profit.
I would argue that Mog Bonanza is a REWARD that comes at the end of the year that allows current subscribers (you can't activate mules or buy new accounts for example) the chance to win a prize which even by the T.O.S. has no monetary value and still belongs to SE.
We could speculate till we're blue in the face.
The thought I was trying to convey in my OP was that I want an explanation from SQUARE-ENIX with them pointing to the specific law or laws at hand that are preventing them from allowing NA and EU players to participate in Mog Bonanza with the JP's.
There's also a lot of ambiguity in gambling laws which could land a lot of social gaming experiences where virtual currency is involved in illegal gambling trouble.
They can either run a mog bonanza, which requires them to hire lawyers to write rules in the first place, and have the chance of being prosecuted under outdated and poorly written (and poorly understood laws), or they can not hold one, which doesn't really cost them anything, and hold different events that they know they can get away with cleanly.
To answer your specific question, what I expect is for them to give the ENTIRE player base the same event. The game was released under the idea of a world-wide player base.
Why run two different events. If they have to make a new one for 2/3 of the population anyways, why not just include the other 1/3 and save some time and effort.
so if all we need is a math test to get the bonanza, we have two options:
One dogsled leaves Vancouver eastbound at 15km/hr at 11:15 PST. Another dogsled leaves Toronto westbound at 12km/hr at 2:15 CST. When do they run out of Alpo?
or-
Mary eats 15 pieces of Nigiri and drinks two tall Sapporos. Steven eats a bowl of Chirashi and has 3 Kirin Ichibans. Who leaves the tip?
If the law is a Japanese law, why would they be the only region participating in the gambling lol? I just figured it was an EU law because this issue has come up before in respect to that region.
There are possibly some states that have laws against this type of gambling as well, although I don't think any state has a law against fake money gambling.
Actually, this isn't fake money.
Gils have a value, real money value. There is a market existing.

Sounds like the one in Japan is for Vanafest attendees only~
As many of you seem to be curious about the status of the Nomad Mog Bonanza, I’d like to take a moment to explain the current situation.
The North America and European Community Teams have been working diligently preparing for the Nomad Mog Bonanza, but unfortunately due to changing times and differing global laws, we will not be able to hold a Mog Bonanza for NA and EU regions moving forward.
While Japan will hold the Nomad Mog Bonanza at VanaFest 2012, it will mark the final Mog Bonanza of Vana’diel. Furthermore, to make sure that our players in North America and Europe aren't left out, we will be holding a separate event where players will be able to win similar prizes (all the goodies from tier 1, tier 2, and tier3…plus a bunch of other rare in-game items), so rest assured we will be giving you a good opportunity to make all your Vana’diel dreams come true!
Also, even though the Mog Bonanza will be gone, we will be offering a different event for our end of the year celebration for a chance to win the items of your dreams!
We will be announcing the NA/EU event very shortly, so hang tight and look forward to it!
