I don't get why mog bonanza is illegal. You're gambling in a game, there's no actual money being involved. If anything, the REAL bonanza at vaanfest should be banned since that's Real Money.

If the law is a Japanese law, why would they be the only region participating in the gambling lol? I just figured it was an EU law because this issue has come up before in respect to that region.

There are possibly some states that have laws against this type of gambling as well, although I don't think any state has a law against fake money gambling.

While Japan will hold the Nomad Mog Bonanza at VanaFest 2012, it will mark the final Mog Bonanza of Vana’diel.

I'm actually kind of worried about this sentence by itself. If SE has another idea for western gamers, I don't see why the Mog Bonanza has to end for Japan.

I'm worried they're thinking about pulling the plug, but I'm sure that won't happen just yet, right?

It's quite possible that SE may be jumping the gun because of the incoming FFXIV 2.0 Update MONTHS from now.

I believe the problem is that it's illegal for minors to engage in gambling activities, and there is nothing (as far as I know) in FFXI's ToS that prohibits minors from playing the game. That's the only real legal hiccup I can possibly see.

Anyone remember how they changed the Game Corner in Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver from slots to some silly card-flipping game that doesn't actually take your money when you lose? Probably the same deal.

I stopped playing bonanza about 2 years ago and haven't missed it. I knew people that bought 10 marbles for their main and 12 of their mules and still never won more than a rank 4. Pointless.

final bonanza? i liked that event. well we haven't had it in awhile (it seems) anyways though... Does SE themselves really think the game is about to fold? That would suck. Least I'm having fun on 14 I guess lol.

I'm guessing sub numbers have continued to drop in the last few months, despite the "new" content.

They may say final mog bonanza, but I wouldn't worry right now that it means the game is winding down. If that was the case, I doubt they would be increasing storage space on the PS2.

The replacement mog bon will most likely be a free raffle where everyone gets 10 tickets or something without having to spend any gil.

Did the nomad bonanza have gil as a prize? I can't recall. Without EU and NA sale of marbles I'd imagine the pot would be substantially smaller.

Only about 6 people know what that even is. We'd all be winners.

personally i think that they're pulling the plug so that NA/EU players dont get butthurt if it were to only be offered to the JP community. That is of course if this law thing about time zones is true. i highly doubt it has anything to do with gambling. how crappy would it be if only JP players could win statues! xD

Wasn't the Nomad moogle one the one they did at fan fest where everyone who went had a chance to win? There was something there last year I think that wasn't an in game thing.

Greetings!

As many of you seem to be curious about the status of the Nomad Mog Bonanza, I’d like to take a moment to explain the current situation.

The North America and European Community Teams have been working diligently preparing for the Nomad Mog Bonanza, but unfortunately due to changing times and differing global laws, we will not be able to hold a Mog Bonanza for NA and EU regions moving forward.

While Japan will hold the Nomad Mog Bonanza at VanaFest 2012, it will mark the final Mog Bonanza of Vana’diel. Furthermore, to make sure that our players in North America and Europe aren't left out, we will be holding a separate event where players will be able to win similar prizes (all the goodies from tier 1, tier 2, and tier3…plus a bunch of other rare in-game items), so rest assured we will be giving you a good opportunity to make all your Vana’diel dreams come true!

Also, even though the Mog Bonanza will be gone, we will be offering a different event for our end of the year celebration for a chance to win the items of your dreams!

We will be announcing the NA/EU event very shortly, so hang tight and look forward to it!

Would still be illegal in Canada.

I doubt there are any harmful laws preventing SE from giving NA and EU a Mog Bonanza. It is most likely just an excuse Tanaka is using to cover his unabashed racism. There's enough of this ***in society as is. I don't need more of it when I'm playing games and supposed to be having fun. I just wish equal treatment wasn't so much to ask. Or a least someone send the man a dictionary so he can learn the meaning of "balance".

Reality denial. It's a ***.

I heard something about this. It's because of a mobile game in JP that caused this huge uproar about gambling for items in games, but that was the REAL $$, not an in-game currency.

I'm thinking it may be the way the new law is written thats has caused all this. Conviently this newss breaks after the law change in japan.

I got two torques and a sea cape from the Mog Bonanza. I also won a higher rank (forget which, was awhile back when things like Striders and equal level drops were like Rank 2 or 3) on a mule before they added the whole mailing ex to mules things, so I didn't even bother claiming it. (Only prizes at that rank were ex, no gil). They added the whole ex mailing thing a few months later, so that was a pretty big kick in the Proverbial Balls. =(

Small chance to win anything good, but I always found it fun/exciting.

If the government doesn't get money for it or of your not folthy rich, it's illegal. That's only reason drugs are illegal, because a huge profit can be made and the government can't get their hands on it.

well, this is up to a point, where i think its acutally better if they really close the game while it has at least some rests of dignity left, instead of re-re-re-re.....recycling stuff and calling it updates.

they could of course make it free to play and get in the server maintenance costs by selling ingame stuff for real money. then again this "laws of doom" may make that illegal.....

i really wonder if SE, as a company, realizes at all what kind of image that gives away, or if they really blocked out reality that hard.

oh well, guess ill play Tales of Graces F and Ni Nu Koni when it comes out here.
