About the HDD Space Required for the PlayStation 2 Version

We would like to alert users of the PlayStation 2 version that the minimum hard disc space required will be increased from the current 10GB (or 8GB depending other factors) to 19GB in the Jun. 14, 2012 version update.

Customers who already have the appropriate space on their PlayStation 2 HDD will be able to update their game without issue. However, customers without the appropriate space will receive an error stating that there is not enough free space and the version update will not proceed. In this case, please secure the necessary space and try again.

Although the error message will tell you how much space you need, we would advise you to secure the appropriate space beforehand to make the version update process as smooth as possible.

come on ps2 users time running out, wont be long till ps2 start to run out of gb,memory, shutdown, overload etc>.> might wanna upgrade to a pc or something soon!>.>

The HDD has 40gigs total so atm SE is only using half of it, this is for the people who store other stuff on it and thus might not have the space.

How big is the partition created by the PS2 System Data on PS3s?

It's just a warning for the people using HDLOADER with their SONY HDD to delete their pirated games before trying to update .... ROFL.

you can use hdloader and still have xi on it?

My US harddrive has like 520MB free ... roffles...

My JP HDD has 0 bytes free ... lol I use open PS2 loader with it because it's a PCMCIA console and HDLOADER won't work there. Also HDLOADER sucks anyway ... By HDLOADER I really meant anything that load games from the HDD ;)

Edit: Also I won't bother with using the PS2 for FFXI anymore if they don't fix the stupid NPC hang up bug. I'll probably update the US one just to see if it's still hanging after the update.

So since they're gonna basically double the size now on PS2, this means there's finally a chance for good things coming later on down the tube, right?

Considering that their "mask" of PS2 limitations fell a while ago, the only thing that could kill the PS2 support would be SONY disabling the DNAS service (it's hosted by SONY not SE). And they're removing the limits they had before, yes. It means they should be able to add at least four new full disk expansions in the future.

But I can tell you it's impossible for them to release new PS2 discs as SONY won't press/manufacture them anymore.

Why do people still play on PS2??????? When I first started to play 8 years ago PS2 is only way I could play didnt have a PC and when FFXI came out for Xbox 3shitty I got it. People its time to break down go to GameStop spend $150 on a 360 or $200 on a PS3!

Except PS3s aren't backwards compatible, so how do you suggest they play it there?

Unless I'm mistaken, only a few versions of the PS3 can run FFXI, all of which are older models.

Not only that but most of the limitations are caused by how the game is coded not the PS2 itself and I don't see SE going through and remaking the code anytime soon. The only PS3s that can run FFXI are the fat models which arn't around any more.

Well I guess you gotta get a older PS3 my friend plays on his.

I bought mine in 07 and that one isn't backwards compatible. GL finding one older than that these days.

That is why I use Xbox the fatboys are hard to find, But a 360 is cheaper.

And I'm not trying to down anyone for playing on PS2 hell if my G/F at the time didnt throw my ps2 HDD across the yard cause I played so much I would have played it longer.

Yeh to be blunt I'm not buying another system for one game. You also need Xbox live for it do you not? Even more reason not to do so.

You do realize that the xbox is dangerously close to hitting the "limitations" too right? and playing it on a ps3 means nothing because it emulates the ps2 version.. lol the only way they could increase the size is to recode it like Ina said and I doubt they will do that with XIV coming out on ps3 in December..

Wish I could get a pc to play FF14 that cheap ^^

There's nothing wrong with playing on the PS2 if you can stand the low resolution.

I particularly like the audio on the PS2 which is better than all other versions. But at this point of the game, most people play without sound, after all... LMAO

^^ before I upgraded to 360 it took me like 2mins to zone idk wth was up with that, I always hear/see people talk about PS2 holding back ffxi or something idk what they talking about though noob on my part.

Anyway most of the problems are actually Square-Enix fault.

funny i normally play with out sound as well just my ps2 makes a buzzing and when the sound is low i do not hear it.


this is ture but it wont play it well at all.

It will run it better than any console version. Being like 10 years old, this game has pretty low requirements.

ya i know just all the updates may have bumped the game a bit up so that u need a decent computer to run it on hi res.

graphics maxes are still so low on current graphics cards that you can make the game look seamless at the highest settings on a cheap little work laptop nowadays. Even when dual boxing if you get the right computer.
