Just need an enclosure to get some data off an old HDD can't remember what kind it was called though, was the standard before SATA drives.
What enclosure type do I need? Alright one more question. I see there's 2.5 inch and 3.5 inch. How can I tell which I needed. Tried to measure my old enclosure (which I just dropped and it gets usb not recognized with all 3 of my drives now) and it's measuring like 2.9 inches @.@
Got a brand or a serial number on it?

Seagate Momentus 5400.3 160 gb SN: 5MAB4VZQ It's not open so I can't see the insides like that pic, but "ST9160821A" is in the product description and also on the sticker on the back, so I'm just going to assume it so and get a cheap $4-5 enclosure and hope for the best. Thank you.

This can help you get the data off as well. Works with sata, IDE 2.5" and IDE 3.5" You don't need a full enclosure if you just want to remove the data, though if you plan on using the hdd for storage, I'd get one.

Also that one is 16 lol the full enclosure was 5 if there's 2 rows of pins, ide and it looks like there is and it looks to be 2.5" (kinda hard to see)
3.5" are rather clunky. a sata/ide > usb adapter should suit you well and should be cheaper/easier than an enclosure. Yeah, I just found the first google image I could of it, though 5$ would be difficult to beat. I'd go for the cheapest solution.
You could also use dropbox to transfer, which is free so long as both are connected to the net. Well you have a point with the network, but already have some stuff on the drive I need to get off and already ordered the enclosure, $4.95 with free 2 day shipping, so it is what it is at this point

Or to test if the controller is bad on a machine, which happens. |
