No, it was always based on the on-hit mechanic of normal Aquaveil, but it just took massively more damage before wearing off. It also has a hidden property where it will wear off at the most inopportune time possible, most likely leading to your death while surrounded by 30 mobs laughing at you.

Edit: But ah, I guess my previous general cleaving the mobs weren't triggering it, but these mobs tend to burn through it quickly.

I'm not sure if it's based on how much damage taken or how many hits absorbed. Byrth is a lot smarter than I am, so I'd go with any testing he has. I just know that it is a lot stronger than regular Aquaveil but it loves wearing off at the worst possible time.

That's weird, I've never noticed Verve wearing off early... it lasts 24 minutes or something, and I'm usually recasting it with ~5 minutes or so left on the duration, I try to not let it get too close to timing out, so I don't forget and have it wear off at a bad time.
Well like on Skirmishes mine pretty much lasts the entire 22 minute duration(with diffusion) always, on my current cleaving camp, I'm lucky if it lasts 5 minutes.
I do a lot of cleaving on high-level targets, and it absolutely loves wearing off early. Normally within 3-4 pulls if I don't apply proper buffs.
Yeah I'm cleaving 122ish mobs, and it tends to wear off between 4~6 minutes.
I swear Third Eye worked that way, too, but I never cared enough about SAM to really pay attention to any testing done.
I just put Verve up while meleeing Soundsplitter Bats, and it lasted the full 24 minutes. Pretty sure that rules out it being based on damage taken.

I just thought of what I'd like from an Aeonic Weapon that would make me happy.
"Allow use of any Blue Magic Spell while equipped." Basically, we'd set for traits only and could cast whatever we'd like. I think that'd be pretty cool.

It's a sign of love/devotion to the job rather than any testimony of skill or anything, but this would provide a reason -to have- every spell, which is rather the point, I think.
